4% of AMERICANS have NEVER had SEX....
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A study reported Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Health Statistics, found that almost one in three American men say they've had sex with at least 15 partners in their lives, three times the rate of similar behavior in women.
The results are from surveys about American sex habits and drug use involving 6,237 people age 20 to 59 from 1999 to 2002.
About 4 percent of adults overall, and only 11 percent of unmarried adults, said they've never had sex.
President George W. Bush's administration has tried to promote sexual abstinence among unmarried people in the U.S. as way to prevent diseases such as HIV, which are spread by intimate contact. The survey results, which are the first collected by the CDC on the number of lifetime sex partners, suggest the abstinence message may not be enough.
While just 9 percent of women said they'd had sex with 15 or more men, 29 percent of men claimed that level of lifetime promiscuity with women, according to the study by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics in Hyattsville, Maryland.
The survey also questions Americans about drug use. About one in five adults reported they had tried cocaine or another street drug at some point in their lives, and about 5 percent said they had used such drugs in the past year. The rate of adults using drugs in the past year was larger among younger survey participants than older ones.
