WBO Heavyweight Title: Sultan Ibragimov vs. Shannon Briggs
On Saturday, June 2nd, Sultan Ibragimov and Shannon Briggs will meet in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to exchange punches for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Heavyweight Title; the boxing match starts at 10:00pm EST.
Ibragimov is the favorite to win the fight, with betting odds of -170 by the online bookmaker Bodog Sports (visit in new window). Shannon Briggs, the current WBO champ, odds of winning this year's Heavyweight are +140.
Shannon Briggs had his first professional fight in 1992, and the 35-year-old Brooklyn boxer won last year's title, scoring a stunning knockout victory over WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich, in the last second of the last round. Shannon Briggs was initially scheduled to defend his title on March 10th against Ibragimov, but Briggs pulled out of the fight because he was diagnosed with "aspirational pneumonia" and the fight was be rescheduled for June 2nd.
Shannon Briggs has a total of 53 fights on his boxing record, with 48 wins (42 of which by KO), 4 losses and one draw.
Sultan Ibragimov is ranked number 3 in the WBO Heavyweight rankings. The Russian boxer fought against Javier Mora at Madison Square Gardens in New York Match 10th, after the WBO fight cancellation. Ibragimov knocked out Mora 46 seconds into the first round and broke the record for the quickest knockout in a main event in Madison Square Garden, which was previously held by Lee Savold in 1948. Sultan Ibragimov's boxing card is now 20-0-1.
Betting on Ibragimov vs. Briggs at Bodog Sports (official website).
Someone who went life and death with Ray Austin (Same Ray Austin who got KO'ed in 2 by Klitschko, who said his sparring opponents posed more of a threat) versus someone who reached a title shot by beating bums, gassing out by the first round in his last fight, only to turn it up in the last minute of the last round and get the knockout in one of the most boring heavyweight fights in years (and that's saying something).

calling him like a white tyson..
i'm not impressed
Good or even great amateurs often struggle in the pros. Yeah he looks good knocking out tomato cans but his physic is average for todays heavyweights, his chin is untested and rumor is his punch isn't the most devastating. A good prospect, yes, but future world champ? Who knows (even though the current heavyweight scene is trash)
