Making people pay to assist your wedding/wedding reception, yay or nay??

i personally think it's tacky/cheap.

i know someone who plans to do that and quite frankly i told them what i thought. he said i was being cheap. i said you're the one who's being cheap, if you can't afford to get married don't get married. i managed to change the subject before it became an argument.

what do y'all think?

I personally would never do that, however, some people just don't have the dough to get married but want to. So instead of people being salty that they didn't get invited they use the "pay your own sh!t" method.

As long as they understand that thats their gift I could care less. If they're really my people I'm going regardless...Nothing I'd personally do though...

Only the women should have to pay for anything and that's the bridesmaid dresses, because they are usually expensive, unless the bride is smart and gives them a color and lets them go pick their own dresses, which is better cuz instead of paying hundreds she can get a decent dress for a decent price that she actually likes, jmo though... everything else should be paid for by the bride/groom and/or their parents (if that's how it was agreed upon)

yeah i told them to forget about a gift. he probably thought i was joking but if so he'll be dissapointed. ****ed up thing is that if i didn't have to pay i would have bought something for WAY more than what they're asking for. it's just the principal of the whole thing.


you want to get married right away and you don't have any money, cool. just do something modest. you want something big, save up and wait til you can afford it. extravagance comes at a price.

for sure i'm not buying a gift but i think i might even pay and not go to the reception, just to show him it's not even about the money.
