Default Wow Wow Wow What just happened at the end of Saints Row? (spoilers)

I got all the territories, defeated all the gangs, and then there were 3 missions afterwards. On the last mission, I was on a boat with the mirror and the boat was blown up while I was on it and the game ended!

So what does all this mean? I know I'm mad late on this, but does my guy somehow live and the second one will be about me getting revenge?

I'm kinda shocked.

I don't know but IMO it was a stupid ass way to end an open world game; you can't play after the last mission. WTF?

It's made worse by the fact that you get the best cars and the properties 2 missions from the end.

I don't know about that, I think Saints Row is an excellent game and probably the most underrated game on the 360.

I'm blown away by the ending though, one of the dudes looks like he's an undercover cop, and it looks like Julius (the leader of Saints Row) used you and set you up. There are a ton of interesting conspiracy theories out about this game.

Hopefully they do the sequel, where your guy somehow survives, and gets revenge on them in the next game and uncovers the whole conspiracy.

There is a rumor you get a different ending at 100% but I don't think thats true, I haven't checked, but if anybody would know, I'd guess it'd be Chewy.

Craziness.

In the sequel,

My guess is that Julius (the leader of Saints Row) will be the mayor with two of the candidates taken out, and one made to look REALLY bad and will have used you to take out all the gangs.

Troy, (who was clearly an undercover cop) will probably have taken over as the new police chief considering you assassinated the last one.

King will probably revive the Vice Kings. That girl will prolly bring back the Carnalas, and Roy will lead the Rollers.

But who knows, I'm looking forward to the eventual sequel now.

Yeah, Julius used you to take out all the gangs and the two dudes running for mayor.

You'll survive, and he'll really be running the whole city.

I didnt bother playing it after defeating all 3 gangs, that game was ok when I first got it but the humour in it and the music made me want to vomit, that's really the only problem I had with it.

I don't see where the ending hate is coming from. I finally finished the game a few hours ago and I loved it! Not only do you get to hear your guy talk again (Hearing him spew his own dialogue at the end of each story was way more rewarding than winning the buttload of cars) but what a freakin twist! I guess the reason so many people don't get it is because you buy the game thinking it's a mindless GTA clone and ends up having a "Thinking man's" story. When you think on the final events of your character's life and all that led to it, Saint's Row has one of the most intelligent storylines I've ever seen in a game. So here's my theory on why the game ended the way it did.
Sure, we probably figured out that Tony was the Undercover Cop mentioned in the instruction booklet as soon as he said he didn't like Lin going undercover or when he gave the idea to lower the police bodycount by blowing a hole through the evidence locker that he coincidentally knew the exact location of. The developers wanted you to suspect him. That way, if you were expecting a twist, you were expecting it to come from Tony. Instead, it comes from everybody else, mainly Julius.
Julius just happens to promote you to his second-in-command just before he's arrested. That puts you in charge of getting him back more than Johnny and Dex, and ensuring that the blame for the high-profile assassinations that ensue will be placed on your shoulders alone. You see, Julius wants to be out of Hughes' leash, but if he assigns a Saint to eliminate the last candidate for Mayor in Stillwater, and that Saint survives, he and the entire gang will pretty much be declared a terrorist organization. And Julius isn't about to execute one of his own.
So what does he do? Right before his operation on all of Stillwater begins, he roams the streets for a drifter. He finds one next to a burning car and pulls him out of the heat, earning him a drifter who owes the Saints his life. He tasks him with every mission he can think of against every gang Hughes has tasked him with cleaning out, thereby toughening him up to become the most brutal, hardcore killer in Stillwater, the only kind who could be trusted with taking out a mayoral candidate and police chief.
Time goes by and you become a one-man army, severely loyal to Julius. He allows himself to be arrested while on the phone with you, and from there everything is set. Monroe, following Hughes' guidance, orders you to kill his only political rival. After you succeed, Hughes knows that police chief Monroe knows too much to be allowed to live, so Monroe is ordered to hold you on the hook longer. Of course, Julius and Hughes have worked out that Johnny Gat would never let this go for a second. Monroe is good as dead, and you now have two high-profile assassinations on your hands. Of course, your character is sure that Julius has an escape plan from all this heat. Your only mistake is that it doesn't include you.
Hughes thinks he's invincible. He now only needs to kill you, and later Julius, and Stilwater is his. But Julius turns the tables. You arrive on the yacht just as the two masterminds are finishing their cocktails, and your company is the perfect distraction for Julius to go for a walk. You can even see the C4 blinking behind Hughes on the bow of his ship in some shots. He delivers his Oscar-winning speech, you slip a one-liner, and the clock ticks. Julius waits to see one last farewell to the Player, then heads off to the shadows. You know what happens next. Now Julius is set. It's only a matter of time before investigators determine that there was an extra passenger on Hughes' yacht, and it won't take them any longer to realize that same passenger took out Winslow and Monroe on his own. Cases will be closed as soon as they're brought to court with all the blame set on your corpse, and Julius is free to do as he wishes with the Saints.
That is, unless, that really was a breath we heard at the end of the credits...
Okay, now for the part that was really puzzling people. Those who checked their watches during your final moments. Was this a widespread conspiracy? Yes and no. Let's break it down by person.
Benjamin King - King's presence is the biggest enigma but also the most important. Earlier you see him about to board a jet plane but now he's back in Stilwater? The fact of the matter is that if Julius's plan works out, Stilwater won't have any candidates for mayor this upcoming election, putting the city in a lot of panic and ruining the peace the Saints sought to build. But Benjamin King is still very much admired by Stilwater's citizens, and had the brains to turn a small street gang into the city's wealthiest and most feared force. He has every bit of the personality it takes to be mayor of a metropolis. So not only is Julius leaving Stilwater in safe hands, but he'll have a dear friend in charge of its police force, construction, the works. All he had to do was make sure King got out of the Vice Kings safely and was out of town when hell broke loose. Still, Ben is going to miss gunning half-naked women out of skyscraper windows with you.
Aisha - Johnny doesn't know you're even on the yacht (neither does Dex, they'd never go along with killing you). Aisha does. She was signed on with King's record label for some time as their flagship artist. How she found out depends on when King got in on Julius's plan, before or after he was taken out of the Vice Kings' lead. If it was before, then Ben may have let her in on his plan to become mayor in an attempt to persuade Aisha to stay with Kingdom Come records. Hard to say what happened if it was after, maybe King found out where she was hiding or maybe she was two-timing with Julius. The former would also explain why the mega R&B artist was so friendly to a lowly drifter like yourself.
Luz - She knows because Manuel knows. Julius had it in mind to negotiate with the Colombians since the start, but Manuel wouldn't change alliances from the Carnales unless the Saints were a sure thing. So Julius phoned him in on the plan. This is why he was so mad at Dex for trying to contact the Colombian without his permission. Manuel could have let the secret slip to you two, or think Julius was all talk if his gangmembers didn't know about his master plan. This is also why he sold the Carnales out so easily, as Troy pointed out. Manuel later informs Luz of the scheme, either sleeptalking after a wild night with her or bragging it over champagne. So the widow decides to stop by the bridge to see her former lover avenged.
Troy - Hard to tell if he's actually at the bridge, but he's probably your best friend out of the group by the river. As an undercover cop, he could have warned Monroe about the assassination even if it meant blowing his cover, and preventing your downward spiral from completing, along with a total collapse of justice around him. Have to feel sorry for the guy. If there's a sequel, I hope he's better off in it.
That's my theory. If you disagree, you can voice your story on what really happened that night on the yacht, but if you want more evidence that Julius was betraying you from the start, think on this.
Julius kills Ceaser.

yeah, its way deeper than i would have ever thought.

i have NO idea whats going on, and i'm thinking this is one of the most well done and well executed cliffhanger endings ever, video game, or movie.

i think julius used you to take out all the gangs and the mayor candidates and he'll be mayor at the start of the second one.

i think troy is the undercover cop.

i cant even remember the ending even after reading y'all describe it.
I do remember it had alot more pros than cons, my man looked EXACTLY like me - even more than R6:vegas with the vision camera - and the Insurance Fraud side mission was fun as hell.
Too bad i had it before they fixed the multi
