Default Question: Is it easy to set up a domain controller??

I wanna set this up for at home. I have two laptops and a desktop all running on a simple workgroup with file and printer sharing. the desktop currently is behind my entertainment center on and running. I use it as a file server only. and to store porn and what not. anyways, I was thinking about it would be easier if it was a domain controller so me and my lady could both have single sign ons and I could grant access to specific shares and folders more easily than I can now. How easy is it to promote a machine to a domain controller? since I have never done it. plus I would be learning something in the process.
