Beyonce Headed to Def Jam? Damn, Sony made her pay for additional music videos
With only two albums left to fulfill her Sony contract, Beyoncé Knowles is gearing up for negotiations at her label, or possibly skipping over to Def Jam-- which sources say she's considering. Either way, Knowles is in line for a big payday.
The New York Post recently revealed that the "hottest chick in the game" and her team of lawyers are readying for renegotiations with Sony that will likely be extremely costly for the label. However, if Sony BMG is unsuccessful in their bid to keep the pop diva, she is likely to land in familiar territory.
An inside source for the Post says Beyoncé's boyfriend, Def Jam president Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter would like to bring her aboard, "[he] has been trying to get her to Def Jam for awhile. He would love to oversee her career - he kind of does anyway."
Carter's interest in bringing the singer to Def Jam may drive the price up on Beyoncé, but it seems highly unlikely that Sony will let their girl get away.
"Sony has had a bad year - all the hit acts, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and the 'America Idol' kids, are all on BMG," the source told the Post. "They can't afford to lose Beyoncé. They'll probably mortgage the farm to keep her. Which means a lot more money for Beyoncé - and Jay-Z if they get married."
Late last November, Sony BMG dismantled the Sony Urban department, laying off a number of employees and reassigning their artist roster (which include Beyoncé as well as John Legend, DMX and Three 6 Mafia) to Epic and Columbia Records.
The label shakeup proved pricy for Knowles, who was forced to reach into her own pockets to pay for additional music videos for her album B'Day, after it was decided that "Listen" would be the final video Sony Urban would finance.
Beyoncé released an upgraded version of her sophomore album B'Day Deluxe Edition on April 3.

okay if SONY couldn't afford to pay for any extra Beyonce videos, why in the hell she would even want to renegotiate with them to resign her?? , when it's obvious they are hurting in the pockets...
she better take her monkey ass to DEF JAM and call it a day, before CIARA takes her crown...

It's not couldn't afford. They didn't feel like it was a safe investment. They have no balls basically. I do though and Beyonce WILL suckle them before I die, trust.

The Emancipation of Mimi is the fourteenth album and ninth studio album by American singer Mariah Carey. It was released in the United States by Island Records on April 12, 2005 and, accompanied by generally positive reviews, debuted at number one with the highest first-week sales of Carey's career. It has been certified six times platinum by the RIAA, and is Carey's best-selling in the U.S. since Daydream (1995). Selling over 10 million copies, it was the biggest selling album of 2005 according to Nielsen SoundScan, and it won a 2006 Grammy Award for "Best Contemporary R&B Album". The album focuses on several R&B-related genres, ranging from 1970s retro soul to quiet storm, gospel, and others.
The album produced the U.S. number-one hits "We Belong Together" (which spent fourteen weeks at the top, Carey's longest stay at the top as a solo artist as well as being the number one single of 2005), and "Don't Forget About Us". "Shake It Off" peaked at number-two. It made Carey the first female solo artist to occupy the top two positions on the Hot 100 while it was the shadowed another song of her own, "We Belong Together", which featured no other act.
In its first week of release The Emancipation of Mimi sold 403,755 copies in the U.S. (according to Nielsen SoundScan), the highest first-week sales of Carey's career. It debuted at number-one on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming Carey's fifth number-one album and her third album to debut at number one. Week-to-week decreases in sales of the album were small, and there were occasional increases. It remained in the top twenty of the chart for forty-five weeks, briefly returning to number one in its eighth week of release. After sixty weeks of release (as of June 2006), it was still on the Billboard 200. The album has shipped over 10 million copies worldwide to date.[6] It reached number two on the Canadian chart, number seven on the UK chart and number six on the Australian chart.
In the U.S. The Emancipation of Mimi outlasted albums released at around the same time and even later, many of which had left the top fifty while Mimi was still in the top five. It reached number-one positions on Billboard magazine's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (for five weeks) and the Comprehensive Albums chart (for two weeks), and number three on the Internet Albums chart. Nielsen SoundScan figures reported that 5.75 million copies of the album had been sold by January 2007 and it was the best-selling album of 2005 in the U.S. In the last full week of the year the album outsold 50 Cent's The Massacre, which was released six weeks before The Emancipation of Mimi and had sold more than 2.9 million copies before Mimi went on sale. It was the first album by a solo female artist to become the year's best-selling album since Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill in 1996.[8] It is Carey's most successful album in the U.S. since Daydream (1995), which sold 10 million copies (receiving diamond status). To date, it's the fourth best selling album by Mariah in the United States after Daydream (1995), Music Box (1993) and Mariah Carey (1990).

you're right, it was a minute ago but we'll see sooner or later how she stacks up with beyonce today. right now though she has the upper hand and has reclaimed her throne as the top diva.
shiit. i forgot my correction. that should read "It was released in the United States by Island Def Jam Records on April 12, 2005."

If Ciara had tits she'd prolly be the flyest R&B chick. Oh, wait, I forgot about Rhianna.

I don't blame Sony. Look at all the promo that has gone into her just to sell 2.5 mill or whatever she is at. Even Justin Timberlake hasn't been overexposed so bad. Most likely she won't even do 2.5 next time out so Sony should just let Def Jam buy out her contract and move on.
