Default Wrestling Observer News- WWE

Donald Trump's spots during the Lashley/Umaga match, the running clothesline on Vince and taking a Stunner from Austin, were decided on the day of the show. Trump and Vince had been getting tense over Trump's apparent lack of enthusiasm about WrestleMania, however, as showtime got closer, Trump got excited and told Vince he was game for a little fun. Vince tried to get Trump to do something at Backlash as well but was turned down.

Chris Benoit was originally slated to drop the US title to Montel Vontavious Porter but the finish was changed when WWE decided to keep him on Smackdown rather than making the rumoured switch to Raw.

The Originals victory over the New Breed in the ECW match was a gesture of goodwill towards Rob Van Dam. WWE wanted to show that they still value him and would like him to sign a new contract rather than leave for TNA in the summer. He has still to make a decision either way.

The Undertaker has been told this will be the first long-term title run of his career. Vince told him he wanted to give him a long-run but needed a commitment to a full-time schedule in return. It remains to be seen just how long Undertaker can keep up the schedule as he is in need of a hip replacement. The idea of Undertaker/Batista was first pitched last August by Dusty Rhodes and Alex Greenfield. Vince approved it in September but said no decision on the finish would be made at that time, prompting many to think he wanted Batista to end the streak. In truth, Vince doesn't want the streak to end and so it probably never will.

The man who ran into the ring just before Cena/Michaels began was a British fan, who began stripping down to his Union Jack boxer shorts. Referee Mike Chioda grabbed him in a front facelock, while security guy Jimmy Tillis grabbed him in a choke and threw him over the guard rail, where he landed on a female fan and kicked her in the stomach. Shawn Michaels wanted to jump in but was motioned not to. Chioda went to start the match but Michaels sat on the top turnbuckle and refused to start until the guy was gone. He said "I've got a job to do" and seemed rather upset. Also, WWE anticipated a large negative reaction to John Cena and so played his music super loud so the initial crowd reaction would be less obvious.

There have been a few changes in titles on the creative team. Stephanie McMahon-Levesque is now the Executive Vice President of Creative, which means a big pay raise plus more power on the Board of Directors. Brian Gerwtiz and Michael Seitz (Hayes), head writers of Raw and Smackdown respectively, are now both Vice Presidents of Creative. Seitz is also now the unofficial Senior Agent, a role previously held by Pierre Clermont (Pat Patterson). Marty Lunde (Arn Anderson) was considered favourite for that spot. There is some heat on Seitz for getting it as he doesn't go to the house shows and so, even though he is paid for two jobs, he is really only an agent at TV shows. He is said to be closer to the inner circle than even Gerwitz nowadays.

Jim Ross' contract expires in the fall and, despite the huge crowd reactions to him relating to the Hall of Fame, there is no guarantee that he will be kept on. Some are still favouring Michael Cole to become the Raw announcer, possibly with Todd Grisham taking over on Smackdown.

WrestleMania 24 might mark the debut of HD broadcasting for WWE. UFC has already made the switch and CW is ready, willing and able to show Smackdown in HD (USA Network should be ready within the year). WWE has various concerns, including missed spots being more noticeable, calling spots being more audible, the Divas perhaps not appearing so 'perfect', and older stars like Shawn Michaels perhaps showing their age more clearly. Vince McMahon has ordered another round of tests.

LOL@that whore Stephanie getting raises for not doing $hit.

I guess they aren't that excited about bringing Benoit back to Raw now since they fuccing jobbed him out CLEAN to Cena for no reason to just to build to a heatless WM 23 title match.

Michael Cole SUCKS

That's sad. Instead of doing stuff like this, how about trying to figure out how to get the crowd back on his side?

For those of you that want to argue by saying, "You don't think they've been trying?", allow me to remind you that this heat has been on him for roughly a year now. Maybe more.

That dude with 1 hip jumped over the top rope like nothing and took that Table Spot. How did he **** his hip up? Was it the keneddy spot he took @ Armageddon?

Until Cena turns heel and addresses the fans that hate him, he'll always get a shaky reaction in big cities and at major PPVs. New York City was SO angry at him on Sept 11...THINK about that for a minute. A day of morning and they chant "Carlito" hard and chant obsentities to Cena the whole match. Sad. Yet that's the "top face" in the company these days.

that's just the thing tho' as far as the young talent that they have right now, there is none that actually deserve. are some better wrestlers?? hell yeah!! but most dont have the same worth ehtic this guy has and i think that is why Vince favors him so much.

he's like Kurt Angle before the injuries. but without the wrestling skills.

I get nightmares just thinking about Ross trying to call an X division match.

"Good God almighty! He did a...uhhh...spinning...ummm...inverted...slam! I love Skittles. Where's Steve Austin?"

It's not really WWE's fault right now...

There's no WAY they can get Cena cheered over HBK. The fans love HBK/DX so much right now, they're completely over (to the majority of people at the shows, I can't stand the whole DX sh*t personally), so of course HBK will get cheered and Cena will get booed. You might say it's WWE's fault for putting Cena with Shawn, but in reality, they had no other real choices, and as long as the buyrates stay huge for major shows like Wrestlemania, tickets are getting sold and merchandise is moving off the shelves (all of which is happening with Cena on top), Vince will be happy I'm sure.

Just look at Cena with a natural heel like Edge, he actually got way better reactions for a long time.. (with minor exceptions like when they were in Candada). I think the bigger problem is WWE doesn't have enough good heels for Cena to work with.

Booker's another good example.... working with him, Cena got a much more positive reaction. But working with someone the crowd don't want to boo (HBK, HHH, Jericho, Angle) he gets SH*TTED on.

if cena wants some adulation from the fans back he needs to get rid of the wack ass "marine" gimmick....his damn movie been out on DVD since Jan..time to give it a rest
cut the salute sh*t because that fool aint never even been in the armed forces

than he needs to get his Dr of Thuganomics gullyness back..he needs to son the crowds who boo him .....and start being more ruthless in his matches instead of this whitewashed babyface

than he needs like a solid and extremely violent 3 month fued ala Rock vs Mankind..he needs an Arch Nemesis to bring the best out of him and beat the sh*t outta of him

than hell be more respected by the fans

Nah man. Cenas been getting booed for well over a year no matter who hes against. They did everything in their power last year to make HHH(pre-DX) a heel at WM 22, and the people still booed Cena.

I don't think so. The program with Umaga saw him getting almost entirely cheered (well, at times lol).
