Bill Gates
We're not going to get our panties in a bunch when Bill Gates knocks on Blu-ray, being that it's pretty clear which camp Microsoft stands in right now (and why). But even him saying that Blu-ray is "very anti-consumer" isn't super off when you think about it. Microsoft (and Intel, and a number of others) want "Managed Copy" AACS features enabled in next-gen media formats to enable moving content off your disc, and, say, onto your Portable Media Center or XP Media Center PC (also see: VIIV). HD DVD supports this feature, but the Blu-ray hasn't officially required support for this, which means you might only be able to play your hi-def content off an actual disc. Gates went on to say that if they "would fix that one thing, you know, that'd be fine." Ok, fair enough—Blu-ray peeps, you want to hook that up so we can all get on with our format war in an orderly way here?
Anti-consumer huh, *Whistles nonchalantly as he looks at an article about the Zepyhr "premium system"*
i dont see how xbots dont see their folly of buying that system
i think the one thing that pisses me off the most is that they used DVD, and that means alot of multi plat games will base off the DVD first and not bluray/hd-dvd
its gonna mean somethin later on, i just hope that with new SDKs(PS Edge) multi plat games wont have to based on the DVD, but will have the freedom of the space on the blu rays
At this point, the PS3 doesn't even need to be that much of a success if Microsoft is willing to burrow blu-ray accessibility. Sony said it themselves, the PS3 was used an attempt to show of the capabilities of the blu-ray player. Thats why they stressed this more than anything, they justified the price of the console because of the player. The way I see things with blu-ray constantly outselling hd-dvd, it would be difficult for Sony to take the "L". Do you hear that? I think Sony just had second wind. People are gonna start wising up soon when they're contemplating their 4th Xbox, the PS3 is gonna start looking awfully attractive at that point. What sony needs right now is to develop some exclusive killer aps.

Money off a dominating format > video game industry.
Not only do they make money and get success (albeit less than last gen) off their gaming division, they making even more money this time around with their Blu-Ray. Looks like Sony won, their plan succeeded, barely. Give up video games this gen, win the much more profitable format wars, recoup next gen.
People said that the PS3 couldn't carry Blu Ray to victory. They were wrong.
