Question Rappers/Producers: How Ya Feel About All This Negative Criticism Towards Hip-Hop?

I wanna talk to the ppl that are aspiring music artist that actually want to get in the music industry.

You read the articles, hear the news commentaries and see that recently hip-hop in the media is experencing a series of backlashes (sales, criticism, etc.)

The fans on here sleep easy about because simply "They don't buy albums anymore"
I read the post on here and always see ppl talkin about how "Hip-Hop is dead and they listen to other genre's of music now" and what not, but for the ppl that want to get in the game, we tryna make some moves and keep hip-hop alive.

I just wanna know what are ya thoughts or feelings (no homo) on the music industry?

regardless of the chatter. Hip Hop or the rap genre will not disappear like magic. it will eventually be replaced by something, but i dont think we found it yet.
So as far as gettin in the game as a producer/artist, it sucks because it's in a decline in demand, cause the needs of the consumers are manufactured, and because what there is of talent out here is hard to see when there is a sea of people out here who dont want to be fans anymore, they want to be competitors. This makes it difficult to find good people. 10 years ago, being a producer was golden, now there are as many of them as there are emcees.

i still love the music. mostly not crazy bout the people and the over emphasis on the destructive and/or non-contructive shhit, but it's still a worthwhile thing. you just gotta get in a different way.

peace,

I peeped a track you did wit dis nigha from my hood Drift, thats wassup.

I think you gotta work around all of that craziness. Most rappers aint tryna even get into the "industry", they all tryna go indie for about the next 3 years and sign later. That being said, album sales dont pay rappers anyway and dont no one buy albums nowadays so I dont understand why rappers still talk about sales as if Hip Hop as a whole isn't declining. I feel like they're all in the same boat and nighaz like Jay-Z is happy to be on the side without the leak. Realistically nighaz need to just get money, help other nighaz get money, then show other nighaz how to get money, then be about they business period.

We in an age where beef generates more attention than collabos. If 50 & Cam had made a collabo instead of beefing and dropped a video for that 2 days later would it have had the same buzz as Curtis? No.

Hip Hop has been getting "negative messages" since day 1, the same way people have been saying "Hip Hop Is Dead" forever

Yeah that is true but even during that period, hip-hop was thriving. All during the whole gangsta rap era, when you had politicians attacking rap to blame for all of the world's ills, ppl still loved it, if not more than they do today.

But now hip-hop is slumpping and ppl have several theories and reasons as to why it's not as successful as it used to be.

I dunno what's gonna happen to our music black ppl but I really do hope for a turn around EVENTUALLY.

who are they to criticize? the media. please they criticize rock and roll, and all the genres of music. every genre has gone through it. when you see the clubs empty on nightly basis, when you do not see any other form/sub genre of black music take a big sweep over hip hop then that is when you determine if its dead. do not determine by sales. people are downloading and remember we are in a warring economy where money is scarce. labels do not have big expectations and therefore the budgets are not that big either. look they tried with reggaetone and dancehall to takeover hip hop and that **** is non existant right now because it had to fall to the waste side. now that **** was trendy. BUT hip hop is shere to stay. tyhe new artists have to adjust to new standards and blend it with how they make music. but if iyour intention is not to be financial and famous in the industry then do not get involved.
