Yes, Cingular's service is ass. In fact, I've heard that if you don't live in the bay area, it's pretty useless.......I'm not sure of all that, though. All I know is that niccas will be sitting in their own living room unable to talk to people here if they've got Cingular.
Anyway, though.........it's a good idea, considering that Cingular is the most capable/best choice to simply get the phone out to the people. Consider the other choices:
T-Mobile? Almost NO ONE has that sh!t that I know of, and they're already dedicated to the Sidekick as their mobile "device" of choice.
Alltel? How many of you actually know who the hell Alltel is? And as for service, refer to Cingular.
Sprint/Nextel (or as I call it, SprintTel)? Sh!t.........even though that's the service I have, and I'm happy with it, they have the HARDEST time getting their newest phones out. For example, their new top of the line phone (not mobile device) is the Sanyo M1, but that sh!t is as hard to find in stores as the PS2 back in the day. SMH @ stores in the local area sharing one M1 to display to everyone. And besides, the Treo is their "device" of choice.
And that leaves Verizon........who, honestly, would be the WORST choice. Not because of their network, or anything, because Verizon's service is supposedly pretty good. It would be stupid of Apple to ride with Verizon on this one because Verizon is currently RUINING the American cell phone market by almost trying to simulate the Japanese market. For example...........remember when the Razr came out, and was exclusive to Cingluar? That sh!t was almost like a status symbol to have.........until Verizon got a hold of it. They whored that sh!t out to the fullest.........now, anywhere you go, there's at least 5 people around you with a Razr (and almost all of them say that it's ****ty). It could've been written off as Motorola whoring their phone out to everyone, but Verizon is in the process of doing the same to the LG Chocolate. That sh!t came out not even a a year ago, and they're already giving that b!tch away for cheap. You think they wouldn't do the same to the iPhone?
And that's the near-genius of Apple's strategy, which so far, seems to be to repeat the plan for the original iPod. High price? Check. Remember how expensive the original iPods were, and how if you didn't have a Mac, you were fukked? Now, it's absurdly priced, and you have to fukk with Cingular. When demand gets good enough, Apple will probably revise the whole thing, drop the price, and make it available to more providers.
Steve Jobs is pretty mean with the strategizing.
