I've never understood the point of exchanging gifts on Christmas.
It's just not a facet of socialization I've ever become accustomed to. Granted, when I was a kid, my family never threw any parties or overtly celebrated any holidays or birthdays, so that certainly plays a part in it. I understand the concept of a reward or a one-sided exchange out of generosity, but when both parties procure easily attainable items of relatively equal value simply to exchange them, there doesn't seem to be a point. Also, what's even more baffling is when one party requests the gift they want in the exchange when they could obtain that same item at the same price.
Oh wait, I think I get it. It's a form of barter, but not one of material value. It's one of instrinsic human emotion. It's a farce, but to the human psyche it has meaning.
Okay, I got it.
Thanks for the insight.
