Nas' off-beat ass acapella is a classic Hip Hop moment that should be remixed by every fan who is capable of doing so. Why? Because its not every year a Rap legend puts an acapella on his album. Post your remix in this thread and I'll add it to the list. I'm also linking this thread to other sites so they can join in the fun. The sites that the songs are first posted in are listed in parenthesis. Producer's first Acapella remix listed in chronological order of it being posted. Mine being first. You can tell our early ones were rushed. Subsequent remixes by the same producer will be listed under their first remix.

*You do not need to have a music making suite to make a blend.
You do not need any equipment or any experience at all.

Blending music is the easiest thing to do. It's timing the acapella to the instrumental that is the hard part and you can see with 99% of the songs listed that this isn't easy. Especially when a rapper or singer is offbeat.

If you have Windows XP, there are programs that come standard with this software that will you achieve your goal. It will be a low quality, amatuer type deal but at least you're getting practice. You can practice doing stuff on Sound Recorder and Microsoft Movie Maker without having to spend any money on anything extra. If you want a microphone, go to Radio Shack and pick up a Shure mic ($40) and adapters that will connect it to the back of your computer. Make sure your adapters are Stereo and not Mono. If you don't want to buy a music making program or any other computer program for that matter, download a torrent client like www.bitcomet.com so that you can download huge programs from the many torrent sites that are available on the net. You can also download movies and music as well. Don't spend money unless you absolutely have to.

For my remix, I only used Microsoft Movie Maker. Microsoft Movie Maker is a movie editing program that comes standard with Windows XP. It's so easy to use, that you could've done this yourself if you played around with it. Took me around an hour and a half. It was fun. I thought I'd experiment and see what I could do with Microsoft Movie Maker instead of opening up my music making program. This ain't no professional mix.

I took the Hope Acapella and two instrumentals. One from Timbaland and one from 9th Wonder. Then I put snippets of the Jeezy interview where he talking greasy about Nas. I mixed all these together in Microsoft Movie Maker.

First Step: Import a music file into Microsoft Movie Maker. Put the acapella mp3 file to the soundtrack column. Then import a pic and put it into the video colum. Now drag out the pic so that it is as long as the acapella mp3 file. Save the whole project as a movie(wmv). The alternative to using a pic is to create a title and drag the title to the video column. This is what I usually do because I edit the name of the title to be the name of the soundtrack I'm using so that I won't get confused.

Second Step: Repeat the same process for the instrumental you want to use. I also repeated this process for the interview mp3 file I downloaded.

The reason you should turn audio files into video files is because that is the best way to time your video/audio with the soundtrack. It's been in my experience that it is the best way to get all files in synch. This is a trick of the trade i learned on my own and the number 3 reason why people give up on Microsoft Movie Maker. The 2nd reason is because problems they have with codecs and the number 1 reason is because they are in a rush and don't take the time to read what each function does.

Third Step: Import your newly saved files and put it in the column you want to put it in (soundtrack or video). The reason the audio is off-beat is because I did not spend extra time making sure the acapella was totally in synch with the instrumental and interview. To do that, would require a lot of editing of the acapella video file. To create pauses, cut the file and put a title or pic in between. At this point in the game, you should figure the rest out on your own.

With these steps, you've learned three things: 1. How to blend audio. 2. How to create videos that are in synch with the soundtrack. 3. How to extract music from the video file. To do this, you drag the video file to the soundtrack and save your project. After you do that, you can convert the file into an mp3 or any format you want to convert it in using another program. In my case, I used something called dbAudio or something like that. I forget the name. You can find audio file conversion programs on www.download.com easily.

It's best to edit music in a music-making suite though. If you have anymore questions, just reply in the thread.
