Default Is it me or has THE WIRE gotten a little TOO depressing and unreal this season

i've watched every episode so far, and i don't have it on demand, i watch it week to week on HBO.

the season started off good introducing the young bucks/next in line corner kids in the dope game. Ive watched the show since season 1 and i am a fan of the series every year BUT:

this year it's like every person of color, that's not cop, is f*cked up and evil as f*ck. it's almost now a mis-representation of our people on the show.

-the kids are f*cked up, they don't want to learn anything and they curse the teachers the f*ck out every episode.

-their parents are on dope, and non functional in society.

-the black polticians are all crooked and wicked.

-unlike the Barksdales, there is nothing to like whatsoever about Marlow and his crew. His hitman(chris and the dyke) are way too vile with no ethics. and i do find it hard to believe that they can merk that many people without emotion or nothing comming back to them at all.

-omar robbin and bein' a flamming homo is over the top

-i even shook my head at Kimma stoppin by her ex-lovers crib to find out her ex has a new chick. -who was a dime and about to pass the bar. : yep they even got the sisters f*cked up and twisted

-bubbs even more f*cked up this year, gettin beat and lookin like he got fullblown aids and sh*t

the thing is- is that i've been to Baltimore a few times, and yes dope is the underbelly of the city(and really a lot of white folks is the ones on that sh*t too) but Bmore also has a good strong black community that's on some education sh*t for reals. i even hung out at Morgan State University(HBC) one time, and that wasn't no dumb ass corner kids sh*t, those cats is about their education. Bowie State to south and John Hopkins University, it's starting to look like a sad shame none of this is shown or mentioned in the show.

-the message of the series is damn near invisible now, it's turned into sensationalism shock value television. i feel this show is now really starting to make us look extremely bad.

where's cosby at, this is the type sh*t he needs to speak against along with his other tirades.

FYI, Bowie State is in PG County, totally different atmosphere and upbringing than anything near Baltimore. You know that of course. Johns Hopkins.....Tier 1 school in the nation. No comparison their. You cant compaire universities anyway. They aren't an exact reflection of the area because kids come from all over.

Politicians will always be corrupt.

Bubbles? His moral of the story is this. As long as he continues to do drugs, no matter whe he does he will never succeed. You can't have a successful junky. Only the Marion Barry story will shed light on that myth.

Omar.....I agree with you. That storyline is over the top, entertaining nonetheless.

Kimma, well I don't know what the director is trying to convey. That bytches are bytches regardless its not just a d!ck thing. Women are vile creatures. Its prolly just to shed light on the human side of our seemingly super cops.

The kids don't want to learn anything. Welcome to the Public School System.

Their are cold hearted killers out there. Its all about a dollar. There are people thats all they care about.

They've shown good classes, that female teacher (the one always helping Pres) has been shown in her own class room a couple times and it's run very efficiently w/ kids that want to learn.... the cross over classes w/ more dope boys than students is of course going to be the focus though, seeing how the show is more about the impact of the drug game on Baltimore than on Baltimore itself

Did Saved By The Bell get too optimistic? I mean honestly, no kids in HS were friends with their principal

No... its not a misrepresentation... especially when you consider that ALOT of it is based on real events and real people. Even some of the cops are fuct up... how about homeboy that keeps robbing people? aint he a cop? How about Burrell... he's the dam chief. Its reality man... some black people are fuct up and evil.

My wife is in the school system... In some schools... the show is a mirror image of the schools. Its not just a baltimore problem either...

Quote:

And you somehow think this is a misrepresentation? I've been to meetings when the kid's parents are nodding off in the back of the room, high as shyt. One of the smartest kids in my wife's school was forced to transfer, because his moms moved so she could be closer to her drug buddies. I often let a kid stay at my house because his moms is on that shyt heavy. Its reality mayne... it hurts, but its real.

so black politicians are somehow above corruption?

The issue with Marlo is that he doesnt really give you much of an angle on him. Thats the point. His crew should also follow suit. The thing about him killing all those people, and not having it come back to him... is because the bodies are never found. U'r being naive to think that some cats are desensitized to killing. Have you seen Felicia "Snoop" Pearson's criminal record?

just another twist. but not unrealistic at all. The term "homo-thug" isnt a figment of u'r imagination.

Yeah, I live in Baltimore... been here my whole life, and yeah shyt is fuct up. As a native, i should be pissed that the show gives my city a bad image, but guess what? I think just the opposite. Its one of the most socially conscious shows on TV. Alot of the country pretends that shyt dont happen... this just puts it on display to get us out of denial. The show isnt about Baltimore. Its not about changing the image of Baltimore. Its not about glorifying the good things about Baltimore. Its about exhibiting the ills of our society, in hopes to bring forth some kind of dialogue to spark a change.

I dont know what to say about this. If you think the message is lost, than you aint really watching the show i guess. Yeah, its probably just you.

to everybody, i not sayin none of this sh*t goes down on a daily basis. I live in Inglewood(LA) i see this sh*t all day myself. But you have to show the other side of things at least once 'n' awhile. Mfiend, you from Bmore you gotta feel me(no homo) on some of this. I know that it's trying to show america about the unseen battles with the war on drugs. -it does a good job of this. You're city is "gangsta", you don't need this show to validate that.

but i've been peepin a lot of subliminals- yeah MFiend Major Daniels, the only true good black character is with a white b8tch. -i was gonna mention that one. and Carcetti winning the election is basically, "the white man comith to save the black animals from their own misery". some of the "good" black women are lesbians. i know that's the entertainment part of the show, i'll shut up.

but yall takin' this show like it's a documentary or some sh*t. don't get it twisted, its still a TV Show for entertainment purposes. it just so happens to have a message.

yo... for the most part... Its about as close to a documentary as you can get!! Believe me when i tell you this, just about all of these characters are based on real life people. ALOT of the events are based on real life events... For instance, the easiest. The mayor race. TRUE STORY!!

Baltimore had a black mayor, Kurt Schmoke... in comes Martin Omalley. Guess what... he just got elected governer the other day... guess who will probably be the next Mayor, "without so much as a campaign speech"... Sheila Dixon. Is this starting to ring a bell? Barksdale... real people. Stansfield... real people.

They do show the "good side"... as much as they need to, without loosing the message. Cutty starting his gym, instead of falling back into the crime trap. Dookie... actually tryna do something with his life. Bunny getting involved with the "corner kids" tryna make a difference. Hell, even Bunk bailing Omar out, because he knew he was innocent pushes the moral agenda. Its in there... sometimes you gotta tilt u'r head a little... but the positive shyt is in there. So no, I dont "feel you". It is what it is. Like i said, its not about Baltimore. U'r right, We've never needed that show to validate anything... but its not about that. Never has been.

peace

Ed Burns, one of the writers, is the one that locked him up. Melvin, (his real name), is now involved with community upliftment.

Ed does a good job with that. Remember Brother Mouzone's right hand man? the guy that was always with him? Well, He's the real Deanglo (from "the Corner").
