Mainstream American Gamers Still Ain't "Whoa" About the PS3's Price
This is what I thought and by friend who works at Best Buy confirmed for me.
He said that the average casual gamer (pro'lly wouldn't frequent a forum like this) came in expecting the PS3 to be maybe 50 or so dollars more than the 360, and the common reaction when they hear the price is 500 is , and an even bigger when they are told that that price is for the "tard" pack...
point is, a lot of casual gamers (the type who carried the PS2 last generation) seem to be ignorant of the PS3's price...dude said it's almost like the 500 dollar price tag is the PS3's dirty little secret, even this late in the game...
You'll still see people camping outside just waiting for launch though, it's always the hardcore gamers to want them first, I doubt there'll be much of a fuss over them once all the nerds have spent their money on 'em and got what they wanted. The truth is the casual gamer wants to play games and doesn't really care much for the next-gen media format (blu-ray/HD-DVD) I don't and I'm glad it's optional with the 360, because if I HAD to have the 360 with a HD-DVD drive I wouldn't own one right now.
I anticipate a price drop sooner than most people think...
Same here... and that's when I'll buy. Fukk paying 500-600 for a console. And before the Sony Marketing Team comes storming in, don't sell me the merits of Blu-Ray. I'm still a bit upset at having to pay the $400 I did for 360. Shyt's outta hand.

Yeah, SOny's initial batch will sell out no problem, but if they run into slower sales in 07, I anticipate a price drop like in Japan. Sony only keeping their price high because they know their early consumers will buy it no matter what.
