You can add the Roots' Black Thought to the list of artists such as Method Man and LL Cool J who are not exactly elated with how their projects have been handled by Def Jam.
"I'm critical too," Thought said last week in New York about the company. "I'm critical of Def Jam too and the way it's run. I'm just trying to fulfill my obligation, work hard and keep it movin'. Sometimes you got too much on your plate: When you should be concentrating, your focus is elsewhere. But I'm no diva about it, you have to be self-sufficient with any label." Thought says the Roots owe Def Jam one more album. ...
Def jam about to lose all its rappers

smh. i wasn't hearing all that "def jam don't know what they're doing shiit" until now. roots ain't no divas, black thought ain't no diva. i doubt it's very hard to keep them happy. if they already wanna leave, def jam's got some fukkin problems.

Is anybody in the mainstream media going to address the awful job that Jay has done as prez? Even bleek was a victim of Jay's weak promotional job. By the way anybody got a link to Long Time ft. Peedi Crakk?

He knew that shyt when they signed with DEF JAM, did he really think jumping from one major to another was gonna be any better??
These so-called conscious mcees kill me with thier off based logic, him and NAS need to do a collabo together entitled "WE FUKKED OURSELVES" vol 1

I guess they figured it would be different at the new Def Jam. Same reason why Kanye could blatantly turn his back on Dame and Joe Buddens would turn down his opportunity to jump ship when LA Reid took over. Only person that made the choice to leave was Cam. Def Jam looked like a winning team at the time...

And Nas on Def Jam is worth twice as much as Nas on any other label so you can't say he made a bad decision financially.

i guess you fail to comprehend the term "RECOUP"....look if them millions they throwing at NAS ain't non-recoupable, and lack an option for him to obtain control of his masters...then YES IT WAS A BAD FINANCIAL DECISION.
DEF JAM ain't in the business of making artists rich..........

I'm sure alot of is non-recoupable. Othewise why would he sign? Unless you got some proof otherwise lets just assume he made some money out of the deal and didn't just say let me borrow several million from 2 labels that I can never pay back...

uhh..have u forgotten that this is the same cat who blew his ILLMATIC advance on weed and a lexxus, he has a history of making bad business decisions...and here's another reason to be concerned, DEF JAM is the only major that i know of that enters into these "joint venture deals" where they collaborate to release the album of an artist or group..
foxy brown and 112 both had deals with DEF JAM and thier respective labels , and you know the results of that...
foxy has gone broke and mute
and 112 has gotten fat and is peddling mixtapes in downtown atl...
these deals never work.....so he will be in DEBT to two labels..
i'm sorry but the phrase still rings true.........."SMARTEN UP NAS!"
People continue to fail to see that all of the artists complaining are washed up MC's with very little potential to sell records. That doesnt mean they aren't making good music, but lets be real.....Aint nobody buying LL's album, regardless of how many hot singles he puts out. The Roots couldnt honestly have expected to sell to anybody but their following, especially considering how dark and "Roots-ish" this album was. And Method Man didnt even have a potentially commercial single. **** what they say, "they say" would have never blown up! And lord knows Joe Buddens aint gonna sell. And Ghostface, like the rest of them, is simply catering to his audience. Not to mention, CD sales in the hip hop market are at an all time low. The **** you expect?
