newsflash, companies have been doing that since forever. that way they can know what type of advertisement to gear towards you. same thing with store credit cards and the store cards that accumulate points with. they know everything you are buying and use it for advertisement purposes.

it's not about being relaxed. it's about showing you that this has been going on since forever and it's not just facebook. yes you need to pay attention and not trust companies but at the same time, there is no need to be paranoid. this is FAR from a sinister plot to take over the world. They're basic goal is to increase profits.
the solution is to read these agreements before you sign up to these websites/services and realize what you are giving up in exchange of these services. also, don't put your whole business out there.

gotta admit, thats what i always hated about Facebook. it's like everyone is trying to live out there fantasy of being a "star" or "VIP". like "look at me, i go out with people at "events" and take pictures". or "look at my status, i'm casually mentioning on the sly that i'm on a trip".
those are the people that give out the most info to these companies by the way. anyone that knows me knows i have the most plain FB page ever (basically my name, and a plain picture of my face). only reason i have a FB account is to make sure i don't lose touch with certain people.
but at the same time, i don't think it's a bog conspiracy. just corporations trying to find ways to make money. take it for what it is...

I keep my page pretty basic too. Do you have your actual first/last name on display or do you use a different name? I heard having your actual first and last name can cause problems. I'm about to switch mine so it shows my first and middle name instead of my last name. It might not do much, but still.

eh...
it can cause problems like if you have crazy pics or whatever and a potential employer looks you up... i don't think they can do much else. could be wrong though...
