How does one go about getting into politics?

I have been thinking about minoring in political science is that a good start? ( my major is social work)


what else do i have to do? or is it about who u know?

yeah heard about that lol i haven't had a Myspace/Facebook page in like 3 years and even when did was nothing crazy lol


i dont wanna run for mayor or nothing like that, maybe a city council city or something

There's only one reason to get into politics: to affect the lives of your brothers and sisters by bringing about your agenda. In polictics, you can be reduced to two roles: the politician or the man behind the politics aka the policy man.

Being a politician you have to take charge on any issue that affects your family. There issues are your issues and you have to be fully behind it. If it's an issue you cannot get behind, you have to be specific and explain your rationale to those people.

As for the intern at your neighborhood route that's pointless. Then again I'm a capitalist and working for free has always bothered me.

yea i don't see myself as a front man, am more interested in the policy end of things, that where i believe changes need to be made in our communities, we already have plenty of politicians who do nothing

it seems like a tricky field to get into but once your in there i think progress can be made quickly to go up the ladder

Policy is a thankless position, that's why I wouldn't recommend the whole polisci/law school road. Knowing the rules isn't as important as being astute to whatever issues your brothers and sisters face.

Petition sohh.com to delete your screen name and then make another stating opinions that can never come back to haunt you.

1. Find a candidate who you feel has a future and whos policies you can get behind
2. Intern for his campaign and do whatever he tells you to do
3. If and when he wins beg him for a job
4. Continue to kiss his staffs ass and do the job to the utmost (on time, dependability, etc.)
5. Dont be afraid to step on peoples toes or heads to please your masters and get to a higher position
6. Establish connections with the candidates staff who have close personal contact with him so they can put in the word for you.
7. Dont be afraid to ask people to put in the good word for you to your boss especially after you do them a favor
8. Never betray one of your connects until they have worn out their use
9. Send a lot of thank you letters and holiday cards to people who do you favors.
10. Hopefully you have a job by the time you do all this that can help propel you further up the ladder.
11. Understand there may be a glass ceiling on your career since some aspects of politics are based on special bonds.

the simple answer is interning, volunteering and law school

i would say read a lot of biographies of american politicians both historic ones and contemporary ones, it will give you a good sense of the possibilities and limitations of american politics

check out kevin powell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Powell just because he is a true hip hop head running for congress and he is involved in community stuff

hes failed twice already but apparently will be trying again, i would have volunteered for him if i was living in NYC

it's a complete waste of time,

most of it is completely wrong, you might as well try to become a psychiatrist or and astronomer

learning law is a very good idea, also learning how to get your point across

also learning a lot about crooks
