I'd rather Obama and his team actually think out a strategy instead of just pouring thousands of more troops into a quagmire. This sh*t takes time. He can't just authorize 50,000 to go to Afghanistan and expect them to be over there in a week. Sh*t the 20,000 he authorized earlier in the year isn't even all there. Besides I read a report that said that for every 1,000 troops deployed it would cost the Pentagon $1 billion. We do have a $1.2 trillion deficit so I'm glad he's taking that into account too.

Oh, I think he should just end it. Bring the troops home, and have the CIA assassinate some people on the low.
just because russia failed doesnt mean the usa will. with more man power they should be able to go on the offensive
Troops in afghanistan already outnumber the taliban 12 to 1...changing that ratio to 14 to 1 won't make any difference.
Edit:
McChrystal's request would raise that ratio to 20 to 1...and still do sh1t:
Quote:
"The U.S. and its allies already have ample numbers and firepower to annihilate the Taliban, if only the Taliban would cooperate by standing still and allowing us to bomb them to smithereens," said Andrew Bacevich, a professor of international relations and history at Boston University, and one-time platoon leader in Vietnam.
"But the insurgents are conducting the war in ways that do not play to (allied) strengths."
The Taliban rebels are estimated to number no more than 25,000. Ljubomir Stojadinovic, a military analyst and guerrilla warfare expert from Serbia, said that although McChrystal's reinforcements would lift the ratio to 20-1 or more, they would prove counterproductive.
"It's impossible to regain the initiative by introducing more foreign forces, which will only breed more resentment and more recruits for the enemy," he said. "The Soviets tried the exact same thing in Afghanistan in the 1980s with disastrous results."
This is my problem with Obama. When he got in office earlier this year he had a war review. Then he put in a new general with a new counter insurgency strategy. Now when mcchrystal wants the additional troops to implement the plan Obama ad ocated earlier, Obama is playing politics. That's not good leadership.

How is reviewing the proposed plan playing politics?

Whats there to review? McCrystal told Obama what he needs to fulfill Obama's strategy. He supposed to be Obama's man over there. Then when the general told him something he didnt want to hear, Obama trying to throw him under the bus. Fact of the matter is u cant not give the general what he asks for. Obama needs to get his priorities straighened out.

Let me tell you freaks what's happening here. . . Listen, OBAMA WILL SEND THE TROOPS. He's not going to send all 50k (atleast so they'll say). This is a CLASSIC dem vs rep fake fight!!!
Neo-con McCain is playing mad because his controllers asked him to release an angry statement. Obama is playing coy to look as if he's struggling with such a decision, but his handlers will be sending the troops 100%.
NOW!
After Obama send's the let's say 35k troops there's going to be a huge fake fight on our TV's between the standard fake conservatives and the standard fake liberals. The fake conservatives will be ''outraged'' and the fake liberals will act as if pleased with Obama not providing all the troops requested and that this in some way shows Obama's un-Bush like stategy. This is all an attempt to fake a difference in philosophies when in reality THERE IS NONE. The GE's and Haliburton's of the world will still get what they want, you'll be at home cheering like the dirtbag-pieces-of-filthy-brainwashed-sh!t you all are, our troops will be getting killed, GE will be making billions, Obama will be somewhere yucking it up with bankers, and the REAL people such as myself can unfortunately just watch it all. . . WAKE UP! I'm actually a little surprised that y'all are actually falling for this con game a bit. . . smfh. . .

nah you are wrong, even if obama made a decision today the troops wouldnt be in there till next year, the exact number of troops is irrelevant, what matters is the politics within the afghan government nd the country
the politics in the country is way more important than the number of troops
No amount of troops is going to change that situation. He needs to pay off the warlords and start sending troops home.
What exactly is goal of the US govt? To implement democracy, build walmarts and baseball fields and live happily ever after? Shyt will never happen and they will never accept western democracy and western ideals. Time to wrap it up and leave.
