View Full Version : pull ups and chin ups are the bomb
started working on these a few weeks ago and can do about 20 pull ups and 30 chin ups by now.
if i could only do 1 exercise for the rest of my life it would be pull ups. you really feel so many different things working at once.
plus people in the gym are standing around shook like damn that dude don't stop!!
also tested some 1 armed chins and can do 4-5 :smoker:
from wiki:
Pull-ups primarily target the Latissimus Dorsi muscle group in the back, though many other muscles are involved in the movement. These assisting muscles include the Brachialis, Brachioradialis, Biceps Brachii, Teres Major, Deltoid muscle, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Rhomboids, Levator Scapulae, Trapezius Lower, Trapezius Middle, and Pectoralis Minor.

yeah thats right. pull ups use more forearm while chinups will use more bicep.

Is one better for your back or do they work it out equally well?

go all out. mix up all sorts of grips and widths, they're all good.
only difference between pull ups and chin ups is amount of load on your arms. with chin ups, your biceps take some of the load off your back...thats usually why most people can do more. the load goes thru your forerms w/ pullups so your back is doing a little more work...but its all good.
personally i do wide grip pullups, normal width chin ups, and normal width palms facing each other. all to failure.

:sad:out of shape people like me starting out can't do pull ups or dips for that matter.
I have to cut about 30 lbs. before I can comfortable do those again.
