Doo Rags
War
2nd Childhood
What Goes Around
Get Down

Theres a lot of different answers but these a just a few of my examples. Jay is a pretty good rapper but he couldnt come up with nothing like these if he had 20 years to rhyme "like Common Sense".

But to be fair Nas couldnt write as many popular songs such as Big Pimpin, Give it to me, Girls Girls Girls etc. And I guess thats challenging in its own less important way....

Thoughts?

Word, I mean ill give the nas stans the lyrically stuff but even thats up for debate. Jay-Z can make all different kinds of songs, club sh!t- girl sh!t, songs that make you think. Nas tries to drop knowledge on ni99as every song with a 6th grade education. Jay is just a more complete MC than Nas is. No one quite did it like Jay did. Nas is a veteran still using gimmick album titles to keep himself relevant.

Nas is not afraid of showing and sharing his vulnerability, powerlessness and insecurities with his fans through his songs. That's something Jay-z had a hard time doin and that's why he will always be inferior to Nas.

Nas = John Lennon (creative geniuses/icons)
Jay = Paul McCartney (talented musicians)

Yeah i'm not trying to hear that from some one who didn't graduate middle school. Nas is one of my favorite MC's but he's one dimensional. He's not as diverse as Jay-Z and he's not as complete a MC as Jay is. And on top of that he's awful live- which is an important aspect of MC'ing. Ni99a forgets lyrics and has breath control similar to Pun in his prime. He doesn't even conduct himself like a rap icon even tho he is, dude is relying on this eye grabbing album titles to offend people just to say relevant.

just like nas would sound like a retard trying to flow over a beat like "hovi baby"

they are yin and yang...what one does well, the other is exceptional at and vice versa, there are certain things that jay can do that nas couldn't, and IMO, he is by far the more versatile and therefore gets the tie breaker, but they are damn near equal, i don't like putting one over the other but if i was forced, jay would take it

songs that let me know nas couldn't be on jay's level when it comes to wit, and technical emceeing abilities

hovi baby
lyrical exercise (breate easy)
***** What, ***** Who (nas couldn't do sh1t with this beat)

i could go on, the separation between their technical skillsets are heavily evident on their two collaborations even..cute thread tho

Look at black republican and success

On BR, its more of a conscious rap, and nas really did it on that boy (tho jay was only slightly behind)

But on Success, which was a bit more brag, jay murdered it, and nas came through stumbling

While i like nas a whole lot more than jay, i know jay gots some skills that nas dont.

As far as the level thing goes, ids say nas everything was always a step above jay (atleast the first two classics), and when jay did blueprint, i was like "Jay can really spit, i mustve forgot", but then stillmatic put dude back in his place.

Nas is more risky with his content, he likes to break the norm alot, which is a good and a bad thing. TBH since blueprint and stillmatic, both of these cats have been on life support.

I Can

Those are just some of the songs that haven't been named yet. Sunzoo says that technical skills separates Jay from Nas, but flat out creativity and risk-taking gives Nas the edge. The concepts and some of the things he says are just "Damn!"

He isn't afraid to take risks as an emcee. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but you have to applaud him for trying to always come with something fresh and different. Nas challenges himself and his audience, which puts him in a category with few others in that respect.

Both Nas and Jay are top 5 though.

Nasty. Lyrics flow everything.

Jay Z just has a lower ceiling. He might say something cool along the lines of "I got a house in Dubai, pay cash for everything I do buy, what else could dude buy" and thats clever.

But Nas has to work a lot harder to impress people thats why people fake on him. And for the record I did not enjoy his last record....

as far as the thread dude is a known jay-hater. jay's success and status is constantly fuking with dude so he spends a lot of his time thinking of ways to come to sohh to try and discredit it in some way. that behavior speaks for itself.
