I just checked mine and I am 11% body fat. Does anyone know if that is good or bad??

Thats pretty good, superior body fat % though is single digits.

Almost impossible to reach single digits. Unless your just an addict in the gym and eat so healthy. I'm exactly at 12% and people say I look crazy cut. I always wonder what it be like if i hit single digits.

extremely low BF% for a female (if you are a female) and potentially unhealthy. Not bad for a guy either.

no offense, but I wouldnt believe it.

how did you get it measured? 11% for a female is incredibly low and unhealthy and I've never seen a non body builder female get those kinda numbers.

For a reference, imagine Hilary Swank in million dollar baby. You'd have to have the same kinda muscle definition, and fully defined 6 pack.

i googled it and it's saying 10-12% is basic neccessity for a female.. which can't be right, because no way am i underweight, a body builder or unhealthy

i measured it by standing on one of those machines, i'm thinking it got it wrong. I'm doing the same test on a different machine on tuesday so we'll see how it goes.

i'm worried now because it says if you go under 10% it can cause fertility problems and i want 6 kids.

yeah those things are wildly inaccurate.

its really hard to get an accurate reading for a woman because they have much less muscle mass then men, plus they got titties. i would suggest you find someone who's been thoroughly trained with calipers. that would probably give you your most accurate reading.

dont forget, its just a number though. its not like you walk around w/ that number on your forehead. people just care how you look.

Before I started working out I was 29%. I was at 24 Fitness, dude just put the calipers down and started shaking his head.:(

Yeah, those machines aren't accurate, especially cause they don't take into considerations that bone densities vary drastically between racial groups. I know a female triathlon competitor that biked all the way to Alaska, is completely ripped and was said to have the body fat of 28% by those machines when it was obviously not true.

I like to get measured in multiple places around by body using calipers.

10-12% body fat for females is very low(like some have mentioned already). Closing in on dangerous territory if not properly monitored. well, you are not yet at dangerous territory, but close. Specially concerning fertility issues, hormonal issues and the sort.

I think its very difficult to believe a woman just saying that they BF is 11% taking into account that said person used suspect equipment to measure her BF %. if true, more power to you since its an amazing mark for a woman to reach as far as BF. But its abit suspect to say the least. Im not trying to be an asshole and say you are lying. because it could be that your physique is ripped to shreds. You never know.

i think those machines that you hold between your hands are a lot more accurate then the ones you stand on. they only measure upper body fat though so i guess its accuracy isn't the same for males/females cause ladies got the thigh/ass fat.

edit: but like already posted you can't really trust that 100% either. best is to get someone who knows what they're doing to check you out.

i couldnt imagine being 11%...i dont think thats very healthy for a woman..and you would definitely know that's good

go to a personal trainer...they usually have those.

I got the caliper done all around my body (chest, stomach, back, underarms, arms, legs) and i was at 19% and then got hooked to a machine that sends these shocks through your body, and it said 20%. basically, I have 19% body fat and 1% fat around my organs inside (that's how you get it measured). That was a month and a half ago, before I got on my diet.

I should find out next week or so how much i've lost...I know i've already lost 8 pounds in that amount of time (160 lbs) so hopefully I've done well :)

my trainer laughed and put me on the machine. then he made me do 30 push-ups because "i'm so concerned".
none of the trainers at my gym use them and i prob go to one of the best gyms in sydney. (for women, not body builders)
i need to find an old school doctor.

I just got my body fat % measured again this week. Im down 10 lbs (from 168 to 158), 5'8"...

I basically lost 2.5% body fat (was 19.5% and now im at 17%) :yes: im feelin great.

By this summer, I should be between 10-13%, should I maintain my current diet and workout plan!

i think the perfect range for an average woman is like 20-25 percent so you fall right in between that.

This doesn't have much to do with body fat %, but after seeing photos of this weekend i am very proud of my efforts at the gym!!

July 07, shopping in italy, a bottle of wine a day, 2 blocks of camembert to go with it - daily exercise is maybe walking from my hotel to get italian mcdonalds which is 10x better than aussie mcdonalds (they have curly fries) and a creamy sauce.

April 08, cut out all fried foods except for once a week and going from daily cheeseburgers to busting my arse at the gym 5 -6 x a week. (girl in the middle)
