Don't skip a bench workout.

Lifting is all progression. Gotta start at the bottom before you can get to the top.

As basic as this sounds, stick with it.

my bench sucks too and it's not like I'm weak. I can dumbbell press a lot but with the bar I can't.

It is a mental thing... Dont take no for an answer... but be smart (dont hurt yourself) Remember... Bench is more pectoral than tricept... so work on developing your chest. Also... Do less reps... and start high (LBS) on your warm up reps, so that you dont fatigue early... this way you can develop throwing up more weight... Also try the century workout ( very low weight/resistance, but 100 reps each exercise) once every three months.

I get asked all of the time at my gym what I do... because for my size (5'10" 165-170) I lift ver heavy (325 bench, 415 squat)

Good Luck man... also keep in mind... that we ll are subject to genetic limitations unless you use HGH

Remember, bench press is a compound lift. Some people might disagree with me here, but the truth of the matter is that bench pressing is a compound lift. since it brings in your back, shoulders and triceps into the lift. So if you have a weak bench, it probably means that one(or more) of those areas(back, shoulders, triceps or chest) is weak.

But the best advice is to keep it simple. set up a good basic chest routine and stick with it. And don't be afraid to do DB pec flys(crucial for pec development and strength, don't be fooled fellas). Trying and have bench pressing(flat or inclined, BB and DB, alternate between them), DB pec fly, triceps(close grip bench press, dips) in your chest routine..

I haven't max in any of the conventional compound lifts in such a long time. Because, I see no benefit in constantly maxing out apart from ego-stroking. Maybe, I few times a year like 2 three times a year is ok. Plus, I don't think is all that practical mainly because Im not competing or plan to compete in a powerlifting contest any time soon.

I basically just work with weights that are 60 to 70%(sometimes 80%) of my 1RM(rep max). And I don't think I've lost much strength either. Just trying to keep my body healthy, thats all.

But from my max numbers from two and a half years;
Bench: 425lbs
Deadlift: 555lbs
Squat: 515lbs
Overhead press(BB seated press): 295lbs

j/w, what are the pros and cons between benching with BB vs DB? i've heard using DB is better in terms of balance, so i have only been using DB, but i feel a lot of strain on my shoulder sometimes. any ideas/input?

I prefer dumbbells too just so I don't start favoring a side like I normally do with a bar. As far as pain goes in your shoulder... are you warming up and stretching before you start lifting? Don't go too hard on it if there's pain in a joint, see a doctor if it's bad.

well i stretch a bit, but i guess i should start warming up some with some pushups or something. it's just that with heavier weights during my last set usually, i feel tension in my deltoid. same thing when i do fly's, so maybe it's just me, not sure.

This guy knows what he's talking about. If you've been lifting for some time and are plateauing, you might want to start by doing some additional exercises for your chest and tri's - flyes, decline bench, skullcrushers/dips being some of my fav's.
