View Full Version : I'm disappointed in JAY-Z when I realize the songs he has made have NO SOCIAL VALUE!

You can't be legit if you've only made songs about what you got and how rich you are and some crap about the drug game.
I can count on ONE hand.
Please enlighten me!
nice to see you made it (http://images.jupiterimages.com/common/detail/33/45/23424533.jpg)

What Redman songs have social value? Does that make him any less of a dope emcee? You have a whole gang of conscious emcees that take care of that. Everybody don't have to be on that tip to be dope.

jay-z has somethin against kickin knowledge, he prefers to brag about his money and makin party songs which im feelin, but when your versatility is limited you cant be top 10 all-time. Im not talkin about his flow when I say versatility, im talkin about his concepts. When it comes to whos got the best flows, jay-z is top 5 easily.

JAY-Z gets more talk about being one of the greatest ever.
I feel like at the top of the game...You have an obligation to give back thru your music..
It's all about responsibility.
That is factored in greatness IMO.

redman is broke compared to jay-z, redman is still chasin paper, he has to. jay-z got mad loot and can basically do whatever he wants musically yet he stills chooses to make songs about the drug game and exploit the sh!t out of it. why? he's basically no different than 50 Cent, they both rap about alot of nothing.

You dont have to make songs with social value to be dope, but to be considered one of the all-time greats its a requirement.

Most people on sohh would disagree with you on that one. And if your favorite rapper don't got party songs, probably would explain why they broke as ****. see a song like Fallin??
And i disagree with that, why would making sociall conscious songs be a requirement for being GOAT? I don't see the logic.

What does that have to do with being considered top 10 or possible goat? Nothing in my opinion...broke...rich means nothing. Where your mic skills at how many classic albums you got? Jay-z catalog speaks for itself imo he's definitely up there in contention for the GOAT.

So you have to kick knowledge now to be an all time great? I always thought that was based on overall skill, but wtf do I know. To be honest I listen to Jay songs for upliftment more than I do any artist. I mean Regrets might be one of the the most inspirational songs I've ever heard. Jay might be speaking about drug dealing, but anybody that's ever been through some s*** can feel what he's saying on some level. And hell American Gangster is one long life lesson told on wax.

Jay speaks to the streets tho and at least has some intospective records...Biggie however should never be in anybodys top 10 for this reason and he really dont have a completely introspective recrod to his name.

what seperates him from 50 Cent? all 50 raps about is violence, all jay-z raps about is the drug game. these guys are richer than rich, they have the luxury to go in the booth and make what they want yet they still make songs about a bunch of nothing. are they so unconcerned and unfazed by the social problems in this country that it just doesnt interest them enough to make songs about it? if thats the case then so be it, they just idiots. i think jay-z only cares about money, thats it, and he knows that making statements, social/political statements, is risky business and could mess up the money. he's got a long yellow streak down the middle of his back/hump. kanye west may be sweeter than a king size bag of skittles but at least he got the heart to speak about sh!t thats not so easy for dummies to digest. jay-z aint in my top 10 for the same reason biggie aint even in my top 25, they never say anything.

They have a point but money doesnt make the man, its the message and realness. Jay-Z is very popular, hes gotta realize hes gotta voice and he shouldnt be afraid to do more socially conscience songs. He should do some songs where he gives young kids good advice or do songs to raise the awareness of whats goin on the streets in a way thats not ignorant instead of always braggin about his material items and his cars. That may be boring to some but thats the reason why pacs the best, he was the most versatile. He did songs stickin up for women, political songs, songs for the streets, postive songs, storytellin, party songs, everything. Thats why its a joke that Jay-Z is considered to be one of the greatest.

Yeah Jay made money off the community, but he's given back more than any rapper I can think of. People talking about uplifting the community is great, but Jay puts dollars on his. Honestly what's more impactful a dude making a positive song, or Jay helping poor African kids get clean water?

Your rite, outside of rap jay-z does alot of great things and I heard about him helpin out with the water problems in africa. At this point of his career, i dont mind him still rappin about sellin coke but i think he should be doin songs raising the awareness of what goes on in the streets and givin some positive messages to kids who look up to him. Hes probally the biggest name in rap still, kids will listen to him. He should be givin more money back to the community considering hes got more money then anyone else.

Ask your little cousin if he can recite a JAY-Z track...I bet he can.
These kids have great memories...Then why the fukk can't they remember definitions or math formulas that'll get them that A..

Jay has said that he isn't the type of guy to preach to you, but he'd rather lead by example. Lots of kids are inspired by all dude has accomplished, and to me, that's better than any forced song he could make. Everybody reacts to things differently.
