View Full Version : do you guys use anything for muscle soreness?
I usually don't get sore but recently whenever I do squats, I'll be sore like 3 days straight.

Creatine and protein powder aid to help speed the recovery process up.
Other than that you should stretch whenever you wake up. It will be uncomfortable but its helps a lot. Should also be stretching before lifting too.

If you just started doing squats you're going to have to battle DOMS for a few weeks until your legs get used to it. If you've been doing squats for months and you're still getting DOMS then it might be a problem.
Just make sure you're getting enough protein, and drink plenty of water. Stretching before and after helps. You can add glutamine if you're really feelin froggy, but its not necessary.
nah I've been doing squats for a while now. I think I'm just sore cause I've been hitting it with heavy weights. Just that I feel sore for longer now. I already take creatine which usually helps with my soreness but not these last few times.

Switch up the reps and weight then for core lifts (bench, squat, deadlifts, etc etc)
My cycle goes:
10, 10, 10
10, 8, 6
5, 5, 5
5, 3, 1
Repeat the next month.
Of course you adjust the weights to match the reps, but I've made my best gains doing this and just started back on this. Good stuff. Sometimes I'll skip the 5, 3, 1 and just do 5, 5, 5 again or restart at 10, 10, 10. I don't like to 1 rep max too often.

so you've done squats, you just didnt do heavy weights?
then thats just as good as just starting out on squats. your legs will need to adjust to the heavier weights. it'll take a few weeks.

I love that feeling cause it means your getting the job done.
What I do is rub my sore muscles with my finger tips and then take a hot shower. Nothing like it really. After the shower your muscles will start to relax and tone.
Best feeling in the world.

yeah i was going to recommend the hand held massagers. I have a high powered one that heats up and rotates and it does wonders for my soreness.

hot & cold blasts in the shower
10sec on hot 10 sec on freezing cold. make sure you don't burn.
or
if your gym has it, sit in the spa for 3 min and then jump into the dipping pool.. it will kill for the time being, but well worth it in the long run.

it causes your muscles to tense up and retract, similar to stretching but a lot more intense.

stretching is so important...helps the soreness afterwards...also cold showers....

and whatever you do DON'T get a massage. I made the mistake of getting a massage while my muscles were still aching and afterwards the pain was excruciating..
