The general public doesn't know or care about this mixtape, not to mention how much it sells. This is for his fanbase. I never saw an ad in any magazine for this thing. Videos are easy to make, I can make one right now and put it out for 0 dollars. Jim Jones going on 106 didnt cost a dime, he could've come by to visit if he wanted to. You're reaching.
No reaching here B, I'm responding to those that are trying to equate this release to Mood Music 3 or other mixtapes, there is no comparison because there was a significant commercial push for this album, don't believe me just check your local Best Buy circular from last week. Not trying to hate on anyones hustle, I just hate apologist bullshyt, if you release a CD commercially and sell like shyt you flopped, plain and simple.

why do people care so much about sales man? Nobody sells a lot anymore you fukkin idiot.....
I been saying that forever in here, heads still talking about sales like it's 98 and shyt and heads still moving units. Sales are way down, and they will stay that way because of the bootlegging etc. I laugh everytime someone mentions sales in here.
Better yet they diss an artist for sales and some of their faves sell the same or less, TRUTH.

your making no sense.. for one- it doesnt cost a established artist(w/a label who already has prior business relations w/said distribution.) ANYTHING to get his album in a Best Buy circular, or any circular for that matter. thats like saying artist pay for POP displays.. not happening. secondly. its a mixtape, that dropped in November. that means, it already leaked, AND hes still caking commercially off it. fukk how many it sold.. if he made $5 per disc, 100k in one weeks- not bad for a mixtape he spent little to no money on.. most people in this threads parents probly dont make that ,in 2 yrs..

no jim jones took the L cause hes not making any money off this....
jim probably made anywhere from 200,000-300,000 dollars just off of a retail mixtape that flopped, while your probably posting from your mothers computer, now tell me who took the L

See this is the problem, everything with yall revolves around the money that was spent or made, I never said it cost money to be in the circulars, I said there was a commercial push, so there is no way to equate that with other real mixtapes, a commercial release is a commercial release whether or not you already released it to the streets prior to.
Secondly if any artist wants to reach the upper echelon of the industry where the real money is you have to worry about the sales because it reflects your reach to the masses. Sure Jim made a few bucks off this shyt but he's keeping himself a nickel and dime hustler and he's embarassing his name by releasing shyt that has those low numbers attached to it. You think Coke or Clearchannel is going to look at Jim Jones for ads or to tour (where the big money is) when they look at his numbers and he keeps releasing bullshyt to make a quick buck? I don't think they know or give a fuk that he released it in November, all they see is a brick.

And it'll make a profit. It made a profit as a bootleg on the street, this is just cake. YOU need to stop making excuses for hatred. I can't stand Jones, but even I see that this isn't some horrible number and it's NOT a tradtional album.
Sure he is. People on the net still seem to feel as though they know a business model better than the people involved. Why wouldn't he make money?
your right he'll make money.... but a janitor makes money...its how lonng the bread you make is

What horrible logic. Artists are supposed to avoid making money just in case Coke or Clear Channel are watching them? For one , concert sponsorship is based on ticket sales. Putting out music is only good for ticket sales.
The sh!t was available for free in November. Now he packaged it and sold 20,000 in a week with little effort. A company might even be more impressed with that. Your whole premise is trash.

I can refute your comment by simply saying you should never dilute your brand but I believe it's obvious you're too obtuse to get the big picture so I'll leave you alone, have a good one.

To tell ya the truth I probably helped jim alittle on this post....it might of let a few more people know....but he flopped ..I.I.W.I.I.....if one of those tracks were on all the radio stations like Ballin then it would be a different story...but its not and why release an album/mixtape in RETAIL stores all over the U.S.A and not want it to be no.1?

Your whole premise is trash.the thought of any company or major label being "impressed" by an artist selling 20k in its opening week is laughable. sony fuked up up giving dude that deal, he has little to noc hcance of recouping, he's a 1-hit wonder commercially.

See this is the problem, everything with yall revolves around the money that was spent or made, I never said it cost money to be in the circulars, I said there was a commercial push,
and i said, if the company(Koch), already has a relationship with the company(Best Buy), its little to nothing for them to advertise said product. theres nothing "commercial" about getting FREE ADVERTISEMENT, genius.. so there is no way to equate that with other real mixtapes, a commercial release is a commercial release whether or not you already released it to the streets prior to.
there is a way to equate the two.. one artists/djs mixtapes sold on the street corner... the other smart enough to hustle a store to carry his product. its not quantum physics..
Secondly if any artist wants to reach the upper echelon of the industry where the real money is you have to worry about the sales because it reflects your reach to the masses. hows someone who re-released/re-mixed a street mixtape, into pretty decent commercial sales "nickel & dimeing"? you think you can make over 100k, off a old mixtape in one week... i aint even a Jones fan, and thats pretty impressive.
You think Coke or Clearchannel is going to look at Jim Jones for ads or to tour (where the big money is) when they look at his numbers and he keeps releasing bullshyt to make a quick buck? I don't think they know or give a fuk that he released it in November, all they see is a brick.
you think if this dudes cakin 100k off mixtapes in one week alone, he's worried about doing a fukkin ad w/Coca Cola or Cable? if anything, he set a new model for all companies to take interest in these bummy azz mixtape rappers. get ya mind right, fam.. you hating just to hate.

Ok. I should give back my marketing degree. But I'll finish grad school cuz I'm already in debt if thats okay with you....

Anything can be impressive depending on how you explain it. 20 thousand of a mixtape in this current climate is not bad he sold that 100% off his name. What the fukk would Coke know anyways other than Jim Jones is the guy that said "Ballin" and had the New York Giants doing his dance? He's a recognizable face and sometimes thats enough. But thats besides the point seeing as his Coke/Clear Channel argument is based on a stupid hypothetical...

Problem is, your argument isn't backed up with anything other than your personal negative conjecture. A commercial release is a commercial release, but expectations are different depending on what you put into it and it's pretty clear that it wasn't much here.
You talk about what the perception of Jim Jones is, yet in reality, people in the music industry know the difference between mixtapes and full-fledged albums. They're not stupid. Clearchannel and Coca Cola know what mixtapes are, they know what the sales statistics are and aren't, and are more informed than your average fan on the street.
Futhermore, you act as though Jim Jones created some new concept that will destroy his career. Artists have been released B-Side compilations, side projects from indy labels. Rivers Cuomo from Weezer just dropped an Audio Home Recordings disc for his fans and it didn't sell shyt and it wasn't supposed to. You think that's going to stop Weezer's next album from going platinum? Beastie Boys just dropped an instrumental rock album for no reason other than they could. They're always dropping little EP's and rarities. Their next studio album will do numbers just like they always do.
Nobody's perceptions are being ruined. Just look at this thread. People are telling you in droves that they get the difference.
Jim Jones made $8 off this CD. So 22K in the first week is like going platinum in today's world. Ha ha ha!!!
I can't believe people believed this when it first came out.
