word like u'd just cruise go down blocks u normally dont go down like gettin lost but know where u goin...hard to explain.....but it's an art to true cruisers who remember....
like back then people used to argue about drivin.....like naaa imma drive we takin my whip (fresh out the car wash)
now people are like damn "i 4got my key" "my car acting up" or some bullshyt so they dont have to drive....

on point.. if you had a crew where more than 1 person was in love w/ their car, there was always that "whose car are we takin" argument. we used to detail our interior with Q-tips in the cracks all day for a night of cruisin'.

damn i remember this and i remember those days. It was a beautiful time. I use to pick up 2 of my peoples then we use to go to the spot hook up with the whole crew, eat, bullshiit, then go cruisin seein what we could get ourselves into
gas too expensive to just be wasting like that now. I'll do it in the summer every once in awhile, but not every weekend like we use to

Helll yea. Knowing general directions and shyt. On some ol "Well this street gotta run into that street if I follow it long enough"
And c/s the rest of the post too. Nyggas used to run to the whip to be the drive Now everyone be screaming "NOT ME!"
On the real though, when I get too stressed, I still do that shyt. This weekend I had to take a drive for myself. Of course that shyt only lasted 30minutes, I only went around the beltway AND I was playing old school music the whole way, but still.
Yea, at the end of the day I lost.:thumbsdow

As I pumped 40 dollars into my gas tank (which barely put the needle on "F") the local radio station was bumping some ringtone rapper that was polluting my speakers…then it hit me…. the art of cruisin' just died . As the 9-9's faded into the 0-0's so did cruisin'.
You may or may not understand where I am going with this so let me paint a picture….
Pick any mid 90 year say 97'…….late spring early..Summa' (I don't pronounce my r's sorry)…..not too hot…. nice breeze keeps the pours dry…The bell just rang and 8th period is over. I dump my books in my locker and make a B line for the front door….Hop in the whip my thoughts? Homework? Na it's Friday baby….I am hittin' the car wash…make sure I got a tooth pick and Qtips to get in the cracks of the center consol…armoral? Check….tire foam? Check….
As I insert the A side of the latest Clue mix cassette tape (hopin' for a some hot free styles from the Harlem World Crew) I take out my bulky Nokia phone and hit up my boys we goin' cruuuuuiiiisin'!!
See back then *****z used to argue over who drove. I mean **** gas was like 99 cent a gallon and I had an 84' accord where 20 dollars meant u was drivin all night till the sun went down and still had enough in the tank for tomorrow. Sheeeiit you'd be lucky if the needle moved to the next line nowadays…
So your wonderin' what do u mean by the "Art of Cruisin'" Anyone that was driving back then knows what I am talking about. You see back then friends argued over who got to drive…the privlidge to show off whippin' skills and to be seen loungin' in da whip leanin to the left with one hand on the wheel was the image U wanted etched in the minds of passerbyers and pedestrians lingering for a ride....plus let's be real U was hopin' the cute shorty in ur 3rd period class..would see u cruisin' and associate that wit' being "cool"......
of course me havin' the cleanest whip didn't hurt my chances of being doned with the privlidge plus I just coped the newest Clue ….(Ron G yelled too much and I kept the DJ Juice for the ladies na'mean?)
Anyways the tight four door gray sedan with the gray cloth interior smellin' like coconut air freshner (don't ask) is the "chosen one." My brother Cudy ridin' shot gun….couple of my *****z in the back…..as we pump Ma$e's latest freestyle over the "who shot u beat"…we don't know wheeeeeere we goin' but we know where we goin' if it makes sense??? Down streetz we never really traveled in the city of Lancaster but @ the same time knowing where we at…..the pit stops were already a given. Bball park Check. Passin' the barber shop Champs check…..all the while hollerin' at the girls strutting' their stuff only to realize we know the person that she datin' (the bad thing about small towns)…..the best conversations were made during cruise sessions……who was smashin' who…who was nice in football….who was ****in' up in school and who got ****ed up…who where the biggest hustlers….who was the biggest losers…..so as we shared "vital" information within that reliable ass beater…..it seemed like a therapy session…..I mean **** there were times where I'd cruise alone just to clear my mind….but wit' the my peoples it felt like a lunchroom table on wheels….you know lunchtime is was the only time during school were *****z were most at ease wit' the Eastbay magazines…. only NO EATING IN THE CAR. (only I can eat).
No question the mid 90's was the golden era of hip-hop. Add dirt cheap gas and that equals cruising for no reason. Aimless driving with the music that created a soundtrack to your teenage years. At that time the last thing on your mind was your pockets hurting from filling up.
Don't get me wrong, nowadays I like to drive to clear my mind but usually only on pay days where the gas is filled theeenn I might take the Loooong way home but I don't drive aimlessly……and the same friends that fought over who got to drive now consistently and conveniently "forget their keys"…..or their car is "acting up." **** no one can cruise anymore without glancin' at the gas meter at every ****in' red light. Besides mixtapes are dead. There aren't albums you can listen from into to outro to dissect anymore. Just Skipping through tracks wondering how the **** they charge 15 dollars for this ****.
Yes my friend the lethal combination of overpriced petroleum and passionless artists don't make you look at your whip the same way anymore. What was once equal to a therapists couch slash social forum amongst friends slash vehicle of bonding is now nothing more then a car. A liability that doesn't move unless it's important. That may stay clean but doesn't gleam with pride. Damn I wish I could go back to 97' just to take one more ride.
Peace my *****s.

 Plus I'm getting to the point where I hate to drive too. I used to be all over the place, whether hanging with my girls or my dude, or just by myself exploring. Now, between gas prices, idiot drivers and the police, I'm paranoid driving to places I HAVE to go, so cruising's not an option anymore.

Cosign this thread, got niccaz up here thinkin back. Man hold up, I didn't have my own whip till I damn near the end of senior year, but it was on then. I remember going to pick up my ppl's and jammin Ready To Die or Dogg Food loud as fawq cus I had 2 amps and some 12's. Old school heads will remember that before we could afford cd dash pieces we were rockin the cd walkman complete with tape adaptor, make sure niccas didn't step on the cord gettin in and out the whip.
I remember cruisin around getting my proper seat lean on, checkin for fly honey's in next lane on the streets. Broke out with cd player deck w/remote and it was crackin, had to keep an eye out for the cops cause of the noise ordinance against systems in our hood. Be out ridin past the regular spots with the sounds up gettin mean mugs from older folks, and head nods from peeps round my age then. Back then kept, Scarface, Eightball & MJG, Sade, South Circle, Da Brat, Outkast, Tela, Westside Connection, Coolio, to name a few in constant rotation.
Car cruisin officially died towards the end of the '02 for me. Back then didn't need an excuse to roll somewhere, gas was like 1.07 on the high end. I still cruise nowadays but mostly on the motorcycle, gas isn't as hard of hit on it.

I got my license and car in 03...gas wasn't even that bad then.
I still go cruisin pretty often, but only if it's on the 1st week of pay (paid bi-weekly)...after that, driving will be at a minimum.
I remember when I got my first car in 03 (1990 Toyota Corolla) i knew my car was a ****box, but i still thought I was hot cuz i was the only one in my friends that had a car to begin with  Installed my own speakers in the back, got that CD Player with the cassette adapter in, and it was on!
To this day, I'll ride, especially if I need to clear my mind, smoke a cig and think.
Summertime, it's on some other ****. I got my OWN mysic bumpin in my JBL sound system straight knocking my trunk, car washed every few days, lookin clean and fresh with a new haircut or fade
**** the gas prices  they aint about to stop me from having my Cruise-n-Therapy.

Back in the mid to late 90's my brother had a '95 GS300 while I was in high school...I used to live for cruising. I had it so much that freshman broads thought it was mine...there was an all girls public high school back in bmore and me and my homies were a permanent fixture whenever they got out of school, man those were the days! The extra fun came when Howard University had their homecoming....that was GOAT cruising right there!!!
