this song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SQF8ep-OJLs)=best of the year
When I first saw this, I read it as "what u know about TMBG?" and thought you meant They Might Be Giants
A friend of mine was just telling me I need to check out this record....
blah!!! i saw the mgmt. perform in chapel hill, nc a couple of years ago before they were signed and they only had a 6 track ep out and just 2 members- now they formed an indie band, made their music less electronic, f*gged out AND ruined the original versions of their songs... they couldve been the future...
Eh, not really feeling 'em like that. That Yeasayer/MGMT tour is dope though.

Sounds like a watered down Modest Mouse.

Bought the album, that sh!t is hot...better than the Vampire Weekend album that everyone has been all over. Definitely the best I've heard so far this year, and yes Kids is better than Electric Feel but both are crazy
Solid 4-4.5 debut IMO

Not really.
Also, this isn't their debut.

I'm liking the music but cant stand the singers
I would bang the instrumental album
sounds like one of those indie bands who aren't very good but are considered so cool they achieve some kind of following and are considered "brilliant"
prediction: one of their songs gets on a popular commercial and they become somewhat mainstream (?)
never heard of them before, listened to some of their songs
two thumbs down= :thumbsdow:thumbsdow
1. so apparently they toured with of montreal.. they reminded me of them actually, sounds like a ghetto mellower more electronic of montreal
2. found out they are from brooklyn.. damn hippie nonsense (extra jeers)

I don't understand how ANY Hip Hop fan could not appreciate at minimum the sonic aspect of this album. It is an excellent top to bottom production.

Weelllll, seeing as most hip-hop fans like the most generic MTV fed (Linkin Park, Korn, Rage, Guns N Roses, etc.) rock--it's pretty easy conclusion. Unless you're talking about the idealized hip-hop fan?
Ratatat's probably easier to get into production wise.

Are you frozen in time at age 17? Isn't 6 years a little too long to be keeping up this schtick?

Song was good, heard it at a bar, and asked who they were... not good enough for me to download and hear again though, now that alcohol isn't a factor.

Co-sign. They have dope textures in their sh*t... on some Tasmanian Rollercoaster type sh*t.
Side note - MGMT is cool (quality sh*t) but i'm feeling Yeasayers like hell right now.

Im amazed at how many people are all over All Hour Cymbals considering it came out like half a year ago.

Yup. Then they had released that 2080/Sunrise single like three or four months BEFORE the album came out.
Similar situation with Vampire Weekend dudes have been making music.

Perfect critique.
Sounds okay but nothing special. Both times when the vocals kicked in for the above-posted songs I was like :rolleyes:Oh they're one of these bands:rolleyes:
(Still haven't heard Vampire Weekend. I find it hard to believe that a band with a name that stupid would be any good.)
I don't even like Of Montreal that much--a handful of songs on their recent album--but I can definitely see these MGMT people looking up at that little-known band for the rest of their careers, sorry.
It isn't bad, it just isn't interesting at all. I hear the music and it's calling out to me in some kind of wistful hipster voice "Oh hey dude, c'mon in here and hang out with us. We're real laid back. We're mellow and we like to chill. Yeah, we're real nonthreatening. We're not gonna upset anything or step on any toes." :gag: Boring and very typical.

I checked out their other shyt... a lot of these bands have 'flukes' IMO, one song they make that is phenomenal amongst their usual levels of mediocrity
Here are some other examples
White Stripes- Blue Orchid (http://youtube.com/watch?v=cC16j0TlVfA)- only song by them that has any kind of swag/enjoyability factor
French Kicks- When U Heard About U (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nU07Voft-Ow)Don't bother downloading their other albums, they suck. Even the live version of this sucks. Very whiny. This song sounds like the drummer missed a beat or something, and they ran with it, compared to their other stuff...
I know making music is tough and I respect peeps for doing it... but these are my opinions...
Being a band from Brooklyn doesn't make you cool...or good.

If thats the only White Stripes song that isnt mediocre you either havent listened to anything by them, or have no idea what good music sounds like.

I got the album off this recommendation and I can't lie I'm liking some of these songs, especially Electric Feel. Props on the suggestion.

something about these guys pisses me off. It seems like they're aping The Flaming Lips, Ween Of Montreal and other better bands.
This is good. It's not the future of music or anything but the songs are quality. Remind me a lot of Muse.

I really need to start making music again
