That's the problem I always had with Em. When he was dope, he wasted his talent on bull chit. Honestly I should have seen it coming, but I fell asleep. I got caught up in the hype for a second. I wonder sometimes thinking back, did Benzino and the Sauce have a point? I only disregarded them because it was obvious what Benzino's intentions were, but a valid point is a valid point regardless of the source.(no pun intended)

There was a time when I would put Em's name amongst the Greats, but when I consider his catalogue, and subject matter, and really sit down and examine it all, I come to the conclusion that it's inappropriate to place him with insightful artists such as Nas, KRS, or Treach. He didnt have the swag of Jay, Slick Rick, Meth, or Red. When he linked up with 50, he still didnt have the credibility to talk the kind of chit he started talkin, so I could never put him in the same circles as Face, M.O.P., or Eiht. As a producer, he had a signature sound, but it dont move me like Just Blaze, Primo, or Alchemist. So my question is why the hype over this dude? Skin tone and crossover appeal.

Initially I digged him, but later on MTV force-fed him to the public. His subject matter consisted of his mother, ex-wife, daughter, drug use, shock talk, and his fellow TRL competitors. As much as he tried to seperate himself from Britney, Christina, and Justin, the more I felt he was within and among them. He's one of their own. I think Christina Aguillera did a better job of seperating herself from the pack then he did.

Nowadays, it's all blurred. Justin or Usher, nobody sees a difference since Timberland co-signed it. Same with Em. Em signing 50 benefited him, as much as it benefited 50. 50 got the TRL support, Em got the credibility he was lacking. Now all of sudden he's talking about guns and what not. Why was he silent when Suge was clowning Dre'? He aint say a word. He had plenty to say on Fred Durst, Britney, and other various non-threatning types. He's a fraud. Granted a talented fraud, but nonetheless a fraud.

him going at will, was more about dre than anything i believe, the gangsta rap is dead ish...but i can feel you on that, i'll sh1t on you is still hilarious and ill regardless

uhhhh...as far as albums, i'd say his most listenable would be the eminem show, it's far less cartooney than MMLP, MMLP is lyrically/creatively superior, but TES has much more grounded content

it's pretty minimal on the corniness (stay away from songs like my dads gone crazy, even if the 3rd verse is one of is best), there are some real topics on the album, outside of the usual hailie/kim/mom subject

TES is the best balence between em the artist and marshall mathers the person, and lyrically it's still above par, not too many love the production, but most people i know enjoy the album

but yea, like i was saying...his catalog don't match his talent capacity, just based on that, he's not in jay or nas' league and prolly never will be, to get into em...you'd be better off just getting his hardest tracks individually, it's a lot of guest spots and underground sh1t...he's got a large volume of good to great songs, they just aren't crammed together on one album of great material

i think MMLP and TES are borderline classics...but nothing the level of illmatic or RD/blueprint, he needs that, to solidify himself as a top 10 candidate for me, but even then man...he ain't for everybody
