Where did you find this?
I'm on rapidshare's timer for another 80 seconds... more updates to come.
lol.
Sh*t's official, and it's heat rocks. 3 tracks in, and Hunter (the 2nd joint) is great. I burning this and playing it for eons. More upbeat is the first two tracks... Dusty drums galore. Can't even imagine the rest. Third track is heat, too... whoa.

It's real. Listened to this yesterday.
Some very good songs on the first half.
Some very obnoxious, repetitive beats on the second half.
Good overall and worth the wait.
*gets out of the thread before people start saying this is an instant classic breakthrough like "In Rainbows" supposedly was*

I just skimmed it. It sounds great. Im sure if I ever get the energy and self-esteem to listen to it all the way through I'll love it.

This sh*t is terrible....it don't even sound like Portishead....it sounds like Beth Gibbons singing over random ass sounds and weird sh*t.
What the f*ck happened to THE BEATS? The first two albums knocked....this new sh*t sounds like a crack head produced it.....no melodies or anything for the most part, just repetitive ass noise.
How could they think this sh*t was good enough to release? The only song that's half way decent is "Plastic".

Can't say I want to be that harsh, but I guess I agree for the most part. I never even really liked their self titled album either, to me Portishead's legacy is Dummy and nothing more

Just listened to it in full finally. Its pretty great to me. Its very Radiohead influenced, sounds a lot like In Rainbows. The only real weak songs to me are We Carry On, Machine Gun and Magic Doors

...still haven't heard it yet... is this one better than the self titled "portishead" album? I know it's not going to touch Dummy...

Ehhhhh
I'd go as far as to say that these guys influenced Radiohead. The atmosphere has always been similar on Portishead records, but they brought in a lot more synthesizers and drum machines this time. It's also a more repetitive (not bad) sound than their previous stuff.

imo Portishead is their best album. three was ok at best (the beats were just lacking for the most part), but it's not touching their first two.

This album is fukking ill...I don't know what you dudes are talking about. Self titled took me about 8 times to get into and now I like it more than Dummy. I am sure after 5-10 listens this one will be right up there as a classic. Portishead always has to grow on you

Third > Self titled > Dummy
Best album of the year hands down
THE 101

Yeah I'm beginning to thinks its their best too. It really doesn't get old to me. I know some cats were a little disappointed that they abandonded the trip hop sound but really trip hop been dead for the last ten years. Ain't no one wanna hear that shiit. I think its defintely Beth's best album lyrically.
The Rip is just so beautiful.
