all these made-up characters, storylines he's using to create music is getting played out..... With that he's showing the true LUPE: an individual who's afraid of leaving himself an open book. Lupe is afraid of showing his vulnerability and that's why I believe he strays away from talking about his personal life on his songs and albums. I doubt Lupe has it in him to get up on a big world stage like the Grammy's and do what Kanye West did last weekend.... He's too arrogant and pompous to put out a performance like that..... He will be forgotten when it's all said and done.
LUPE = a nygga who studied a hip-hop history book and took on the characteristics and attributes of his favourite rappers.
^^^^^ he showed me this by saying he was trying to make Food & Liqour a 2006 Illmatic(Nas)..... nygga create your own masterpiece instead of trying to trace someone else's

Food & Liqour was nothing like Illmatic, get the fukk outta here.
It was more along the lines of IWW.
And so what if he traces other's designs for albums? As long as it isn't cut and paste, it makes for good album. Every artist has those inspirations like that. Fukk a hater, Lupe is that dude.

And Kanye isn't?
I like Kanye's music but even you gotta admit Lupe's arrogance ( if he is arrogant) doesn't even match Kanye's.

I'm not sure if it was illmatic he was trying to trace but it was one of those early nas albums.... I can't really remember I will do some searching to find out exactly which one it was...... but that shows it wasn't an inspiration it was clear cut PLAGIARIZING he was trying to accomplish...... He was trying to copy a successful formula in a bid to cement his place in hip-hop history.
Lupe is not that dude... I REPEAT not that dude....... hip-hop fans are so desperate for something new that they just accept anything that seems different and opposite of what's prevalent.
Lupe Fiasco took Kanye West steez and ran with it 2 years after Ye dropped a successful debut College Dropout..... lupe saw that and decided that was going to be his lane.

Ye's has arrogance but he's also real humble in the presence of legends and people who have accomplished more than he has(which some people fail to highlight)
example: The #1 video shoot on BET's access granted where he was being interviewed at the end with Pharrell, Diddy, and Timbaland.... nygga straight up admitted he don't belong in the category or to be seen on camera within that group.... he said they on another level than him
Ye's arrogance comes from his accomplishment in this rap game.
His first 3 albums are platinum certified
Put out 3 videos for Jesus Walks
He's won how many grammys?
He's been THEE biggest producer in the last 10 years(arguably) who hasn't he produced for?
Defeated Curtis "Interscope/Interpol/Mr. Soundscan" Jackson in a record sales battle
Ye has reason to show the arrogance because he dominates every year he comes out. What has Lupe done?

He dropped the album of the year last year.

Your getting on lupe with tryna make a 2006 It Was Written but your making the same 2006 threads in 2008...whats the point? Theres already four other threads doing exactly what your doing so go post in them and strengthen your bonds with the rest of the haters.

you really got your panties in a twist over this thing about Lupe messing up ATCQ lines!?

you really got your panties in a twist over this thing about Lupe messing up ATCQ lines!?
that didn't bother me as much as his explanation for doing so...... he tried to make it seem as though ATCQ were not "HOT" or "street" ENOUGH when he was growing up and so it didn't matter whether he messed up their lines because he wasn't listening to them back then. Instead of just admitting he fvkced up he wanted to save face and act like he wasn't feeling them too much and Q-Tip was begging to have him up there honour him...... Q-Tip came out and rejected that series of events
He's left himself open to criticism plenty of times last year. You think he didn't realize what would happen when he made his Tribe statements?
Plus, he can make music about whatever he wants. Honestly, it's about time that artists realize something: for the most part, nobody gives a fukk about your life and how you grew up. People like introspective tracks because they can relate for the most part. No one actually gives a damn that Joe Budden had baby mamma drama. No one cares that Jay-Z shot his brother. We care about the execution and the finished product.
Lupe should impress people more considering his music touches a huge range of emotions without having personal inspirations behind them. I know a lot of us can relate to a song like He Say She Say. Plus who's to say he wont get more personal on LupEnd. Dude is only two albums in. Criticism like this through only two albums proves dude is doing something right.

I believe he made those comments not thinking it would get the backlash it did. He sounded surprised by the amount of attention it got in the media.

I said the same thing after Food & Liqour but once The Cool dropped I realized what this nygga was trying to do.... and that is avoid mentioning himself so it would be harder for the hip-hop community to critique his music/work.

You can critique his work regardless of if its personal or not. I respect what you're saying but I just don't see it as a prereq for a MC to get all personal on tracks. Plus like Kaycee said, on Fighters Lu talks about his father and grandmother who passed away. As far as Hurt Me Soul, I'm not sure how personal those were.

First there's a thread about some kid mad as hell at Lupe Fiasco for being a fraud (how ironic is that in todays market of fake super thugs and pablo escobars) and now he is being criticised for not being "personnal" in his rhymes???
Are you kids serious?
I mean make fun of his geekyness, make fun of his lame name, make fun of his voice or whatever but at least try to hate on him for some reason that doesnt make it too obvious that you are a nothin but a straight up hater.
3/4 of the rappers out arent rapping about there personnal lives.
You kids tryin to come off smarter than you are.

for one....maybe it's just me...but the whole "character" thing that he's doing, is really based on himself...there was an interview where he was asked if the cool was based on himself (something i thought from jump) and he said yea, but he ain't want to get into it (unlike dumb ass self incriminating ass rappers)
his PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, are the backdrop/inspiration for "the cool" mythology...and there have been a number of "personal" tracks, hurt me soul, and fighters for example all give you a bit of insight to how dude ticks on a personal level, even sittin sidewayz (gangbangin in chicago) gives you a look into his past
what exactly did you think he meant when he said "lord please have sympathy, and forgive my-cool, young history"
you n1ggas need to pay attention man, seriously, i never seen so many n1ggas pick somebody apart down to a tee....and still really have no idea of what they are talking about...you breaking this n1gga down to some kind of retarded ass science and you ain't even making sense with it

dumbfukk anything an artist writes is gonna be a piece of them, of thier soul, can be exaggerated or lessened but it's BASED off them
so who gives a fukk, maybe he did street shhit maybe he didn't
maybe some of the shhit is exaggerated maybe it aint
maybe he's lyrically pleadin the 5th that's why he aint tryin to take the credit
just listen to the music and enjoy it and take it how you want
it don't make a difference, if you got soul, when you listen, you'll know what the deal is

you just proved how much of a dumbfucck that you are with that statement homie....seriously, kadeem plays the cool in the videos and in the CD booklet, this just goes to show, just like in your initial long ass post that you really don't know sh1t about lupe or his music...make a thread about somebody you actually listen to, if you think the n1ggas corny (how ironic) and wack and unorigonal, don't listen or talk about him
speak on somebody you do like and actually KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT
