They've got two albums, "LCD Soundsystem" and "Sound Of Silver"....if you dig that then you should check out the DFA's remix albums.

Not half as good, but still worth a listen.

I wouldn't say that...the second disc with all his older stuff is still probably my favorite LCD material.

Also check out James Murphy's Fabric album....one of the nicest fabrics in years IMO.

In the last few years I've really gotten into electronic music and all it has to offer. I think it's movement is beyond any other genres at this point because a lot of acts are able to get past barriers and blend all thats influeced them. LCD is a prime example of that. IMO, if youre into hip-hop and youre into music that is rhythm-based, there's no reason not to appreciate electronic music. Hip-hop could take some pointers. [kanye tapped into it with ”stronger“].

btw, just check out some lcd videos on you tube- tribulations, anyone? and a track that defines them, “Yeah [Crass Version]”...

I love that "Dolls" track by Crystal Castles, but find the rest of it kind of boring. It all sounds like DOPE 8-bit Nintendo music... but 8-bit Nintendo music nonetheless. I think "Dolls" pretty much summarizes their style and everything else is a footnote.

As for LCD, "Sound of Silver" >>>> the debut. The debut was neat but the second album was a huge improvement over the original in every way--sonically and from a songwriting standpoint. The first album was far more hipsterish, which isn't necessarily a completely horrible thing, but when the song title is "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House"...I don't want to hear it too often. "Losing My Edge" is GREAT, but in sort of the same way, it's a song that's a one-trick pony; it says something very specific and name-checks a lot of things, and I don't want to hear it too often. So many of the songs on the first album are almost straight-up gimmicks, whereas on Sound Of Silver, none of them seem anywhere close to gimmicky (except maybe "NY I love you").

The debut just seemed like the best someone could do working with a laptop running windows '95 or something. I don't know what tools/programs/instruments were used on the two albums, but it sounds like by the second album James Murphy had bought himself a LOT more equipment or whatever. I'll have to listen to the second disc of the first album again, though, I don't think I ever have. I think it's just a compilation or remixes, right? (EDIT: Nevermind, I have listened to it. There are just a few remixes at the end.)

I just always thought that the first album was a good idea that wasn't fully fleshed out,

yeah pretty much.

I got into LCD when I heard "tribulations" a few years back and I like some of that first album, but like you said, he REALLY stepped it up on Sound Of Silver. LCD is really good live as well.

Anyone that likes Sound of Silver should check out early to mid-80s Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Visage, The Faint, Ladytron, etc.
