So i've got this vehement cold that's been bothering me for a hot minute now.
It began last sunday and i believe reached its peak yesterday (typical symptoms including runny nose, violent coughs, body aches, headaches making me feel mad nauseous/disoriented, etc.).
I'm trying to kick it this weekend and this cold, borderline flu/fever is not waning down as fast as i'd like it to (taking appropriate remedial approaches to stave this shiit off - ColdEeze lozenges, Thera-Flu, Nyquil)...
But my question is - will doing cardio/exercising aid in relieving this cold i've got any faster?
This sucks.

If you have the energy, than more power to you. I'm no doctor but I think sweating and taking in fluids should help beat it. Maybe going to a sauna or steam room is a better idea though.
Only go do cardio if the weather is right. I know when I feel sick like that, as I do cardio I tend to feel better, but when your sick it can be hard to muster the strength to have a good cardio session.
Do what you want, just so long as its not miserable outside, you should be good.

Not a good idea w/ cold weather. Best options are rest and lots of fluids.

Well last night, i performed my sweat duties in the gym, eliminating the cold weather factor from my regimen.
(this was the first time i did any exercise since i've been sick... and i initially got struck with this bad cold 5 days previously)
Did a little upper body and jogged on the eleptakal machine for almost 40 minutes (roughly 600 calories lost, decent workout).
Conclusion: Is sweating out a cold an effective approach to staving off a cold?
I feel slightly better. But i can't say whether or not it's attributed to the workout or not. It may be my natural defenses fending off my ailment, maybe the pharmaceuticals kicking it, the gym may have complimented it, drinking plenty fluids, resting affluently... or simply a culmination of all the things i've been doing... who knows.
What is certain is that i hate staying home and regardless of how i feel, i'm going out tonight. There are too many single, discontent/miserable females who didn't have valentinos for valentines day and will be out and about. I'm on the prowl and this cold will not stop me.
Thanks all.
And yeah, i think with a cold, if one is up for it, has the strength, should attempt to sweat it out. Keeping the body warm is essential when you're feeling under the weather. Chicken noodle soup don't hurt, Kurt!!!

There are positives and negatives. Most of the following is coming from personal experience as well as professional opinions.
If you can actually muster up the energy to go, you'll be doing yourself good. Not only will you "sweat out" the cold if you lift weights you're releasing endorphins...raise your heart rate, activate your muscles, etc. It pretty much just brings your body back to its normal state.
The cons are you can pass out. You could also over-exert yourself, or expose yourself to the elements which will prolong your sickness.
I usually have real shiitty lung capacity when I'm sick so I might take a day or 2 off from the gym, then when I go just take things real slow. I usually have to lower the weight too cause my body is on tough times. But it always puts me back in the game quicker then if I didnt go at all.

You see this is why I prefer to work out at home, I have all the equipment and space I need. I don't have to worry about catching someone else's cold/flu/germs.

sauna + no peeps= win
even when i go during the daytime (when peeps are at work), there still manages to be a few old people in there (the area is residential, so you're bound to get some gramps or few in there).

Yo Young...
Last tuesday-thursday (the time i initially posted this thread), my cold was at it's most malignant stages. I didn't want to get off bed as well. I forced myself last friday to finally hit up the gym. Went saturday as well (even managed to go out Sat night like i stated previous). Wasn't a good look. Couldn't talk to any ladies at all, ran into a gal pal and i was straight mute (talking outta my hands like i was a sistah and shiit).
My throat was gone, but for the most part, my body was fine and i had my usual amount of alcoholic beverages (6-7).
I seriously didn't think i'd be good but i'm feeling alright today (one full week later).
Conclusion... Andre said it right. Sweat it out, but don't expect to perform at max capacity. Keep it moderate, do what you can but not in excess. Once you start feeling lightheaded, time to turn it down or go home. Didn't spend too much time on the weights so commenting on that is to no avail but cardio should be considered for anybody who is trying to speed up the alleviating process of a cold. Shiit is good.
