I started heavy lifting about two months ago and I am seeing results because I eat well and get good rest, but I need to upgrade my workout because even though I try to switch exercises to shock the muscle, this work out is starting to get easy. In your opinions, how many days should I be working out, how many reps and sets should I be doing, and what exercises do you recommend? I love doing push-ups and chin-ups, even though I hear they're more for toning the muscle rather than enlarging it. Is there anyway I could continue to do those exercises and still gain mass?

Lift heavier, and do smaller sets.

push ups are a waste of time. chin ups and pull ups are good. if you can do more then 10 then start adding weight. start them from a dead hang.
you really dont need to "shock the muscle" that often. thats more of a thing body builders do when they've plateaued. your average joe doesnt really plateau though cause they rarely reach their potential.
build your workouts around compound lifts. if things get too light, add more weight. people will tell you different things about reps and sets. i do 2 heavy sets at around 5 reps, so take that as you will.

How many reps do you need to do to really be effective?

Honestly, it depends alot on how I'm feeling that day, but I'll do 2-3 sets of 5-8 Reps. Give myself at least a minute to a minute and a half rest in between.

I'll help you out, but first...
what's your lifting routine/schedule.
