Spirulina..who here uses/takes it?

Anyways the S.O. bought some for me the other day because the lady at GNC recommended it to him for my Sickle Cell since it's so high in protein.
I have never heard of it until now, and wanted to know if any of you have used it and how it has been working for you...

My friend had me try one of the spirulina balls at the health food place. Grossest shyt I've ever tried to eat. I ate about half of it and gave up.

He got them for me in capsule form so I don't taste anything, but when you open the bottle they do smell like straight up fish:gag:
