I know there was a thread before and Shoalin started to tell me about it in another thread...but I figured I would make a new one cause I had a couple of questions.
-- What does it take to send you body into the Keto state? No carbs at all? Minimal carbs? Only complex carbs?
-- Why does it take 2-3 days for your body to get to this state?
-- If you are Keto Cycling, and loading on carbs 1-2 days...does this mean that you are only in the keto state for 2-3 days (since you load on carbs for two days, then it takes 2-3 days to get BACK to the keto state)?

1. Just the lack of carbs. You should not completely avoid carbs, just greatly minimize it.
2. Ketosis occurs when the amount of carbohydrate fuel drops below a critical level, forcing the body to turn to protein and fat reserves to do the work carbohydrates normally do. For some people, it can take 2-3 days for others probably less. From what I read it seems like most people need that 2-3 day time frame. Also, when in the Keto state, your body produces ketones, which are primarly responsible for the breakdown of fat stores.
3. Yes, again for most people. Some people only load for 12 hours a week and others for a complete 2 days consecutively. ALso, there are some people that completely avoid bread and fruit. Personally, I think that you should intake berries during carb loading and whole wheat bread as well and eliminate fruits and juices.
I'm sure there are many renditions of cyclic ketogenics. This diet has been around for 100 years, surprisingly.
