Yeah, absolutely. I didn't consider it because I've had it since last year. But it's a great great record.

08 is starting so slow I don't know what to get...
The Jack Johnson album has a fitting name, because I might as well have been sleeping when we played that mediocre boring sh!t at work.
The new Hot Chip, however, is awesome.

its all indie.
Vampire Weekend is afro pop type stuff, really great.
Hot Chip is more electronic type pop stuff, not as huge on them, the new album has a few awesome songs on it though.
Foals are kind of hard to describe, maybe a bit more punkish, kind of remind me a bit of Battles except way less crazy.
and the Black Lips are kind of garage/punk/country/blues stuff. my favorite band at the moment.
what didnt you like that was hyped up last year?

The Arcade Fire record was pretty shiity in my opinion, or at least boring (same thing). Not sure why folks were so in love with it.
I don't really recall anyone hyping The Arcade Fire in that thread--may have missed it though.

I thought there were three of four really great songs but the rest was pretty forgettable. But I dont remember anyone on here really talking about it either.
I just heard Dig, Lazarus, Dig! by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds the other day. It's pretty awesome.

My friend is involved with the production, he played it for me. The first single is out, I think the video's up on youtube. It's definitely rockier. Less of the orchestration and harmony from the last record.
The Arcade Fire album wasn't that bad. I wasn't into it except for Intervention & Bad Vibrations first but I would hear another song offhand and find a part I really liked until it all fell together.

Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams
I'd still rather see his solo albums move close to the sort of songs he does with New Pornographers.

I kind of like the new Whigs album. And the two songs from The Bigs Sleeps new one sound good.
The Whigs record was nice. I haven't got around to listening to The Big Sleep records but I have high expectations.

Nope.
Most of the stuff I hear of comes either from seeing bands live, or reccomendations from friends and people online. The only music stuff I read is local magazines/websites, and a few bigger sites like Pitchfork.

i don't really mess with music magazines since Punk Planet went defunct and I haven't been able to find Maximum Rock N Roll. Most of the stuff that I discover now is through random searching on myspace or looking at lists on Amazon.

They're one of the few groups that release consistently great music that never really sounds similar. I'm just surprised they keep managing it on what must be their 15th album or something.
The Crystal Castles album comes out in a couple of weeks, I'm pretty interested to hear that.

There's this metal band called Bullet for My Valentine that I just heard for the first time. I've heard the name a million times, but when I finally heard a few tracks (off their 2008) album, I was very impressed. It reminds me of Trivium and Metallica, but with even catchier softer/singing parts. I suspect the music is only good if you are looking for this sound. This may be one of the few metal albums I'll end up loving this year.
I want to check for their older stuff now as well.

They've put out another record besides If You Ever See an Owl...? It was nice for what it was.

The record was cool--it just feels much more subdued than the first album. Still good though.
The We Are Scientists record was pretty weak. I was never really that big of a fan.
Born Ruffians album was neat but it seems that every song that was on the EP was neutered for the record. I hate when bands do that.

Not the same band. I'm referring to the one from Detroit.

I like it alot. Its definitely different than their first, but not in a bad way.
I didnt even realize the new We Are Scientists album is out. With Love and Squalor was enjoyable for like two listens, they seem pretty talentless to me for some reason.
I thought the Born Ruffians album is pretty decent. There has been alot better stuff released this year though.
