I love that No Age record as well.
Definitely. I've been digging that whole LA/The Smell scene right now - No Age, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda...all good bands. And, yes, I know I'm late...
I'm very confused with Last Shadow Puppets?
Can someone 'splain?
Dudes just up and made a new band?
Pretty much. It's just a side project, though. The Rascals' album is coming out this year and the Arctic Monkeys are probably working on something else by now as well.

HEALTH, Pizza!, and the Silver Daggers too. They're all just killing it.

Hey, I don't know anything about Pizza! Do they have a record out? I tried researching this myself, but with a band name like Pizza!, you can only get so far...

I really liked it. It doesn't have the same impact on 1st listen as Apologies..... did, but then not much has or will have.
And the production isn't competely awful which is a bonus.
It sounds like a Wolf Parade album, which is very encouraging thing given the amount of time dedicated to 'side' projects in between the albums.
The Wolf Parade album was decent to good. Solid outing.
New Wiley leaked. I like it, it doesn't really do anything new but it's always good to hear grime done well.
MGMT got one fun f*cking record.

Absoloutely love the new Wolf Parade. Took a few listens, but well worth it.
The new Elvis Costello record is very nice.
Can't find the thread where folks were talking about the new Death Cab for Cutie. But it was sort of lackluster, not bad, but just sort of there. I'd rather listen to Pinback.
Lot's of new stuff:
Mates of State - Re-Arrange Us
Ratatat - Shiller
Tim Fite - Fair Ain't Fair
The Night Marchers - See You in Magic
The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale

The Death Cab album was hit and miss I thought. The 'hits' are very enjoyable, the misses are pretty average.
Haven't seen anybody mention The Dodos - Visiter yet, definitely one of the better albums this year.
Mates of State was a disappointment. Didn't realise they could actually make a boring record.

anything decent come out lately?
all i know about is Deerhunter and Brendan Canning
The Ratatat full length came out. Also, that Tim Fite album was kind of a surprie.
M83 - Saturdays = Youth is pretty cool.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
I keep returning to the Foals and These New Puritans records.

The Bon Iver album is decent, not bothered if its techincally last year, its official release is this year so thats all i'm going by.
Just listened to the Black Keys album, thats pretty decent too.

I kind of overdid it with the Foals album, but its still pretty good. These New Puritans is still  to me though, Top 3 album of the year. I'd say Nouns is the same way too actually.

There's this metal band called Bullet for My Valentine that I just heard for the first time. I've heard the name a million times, but when I finally heard a few tracks (off their 2008) album, I was very impressed. It reminds me of Trivium and Metallica, but with even catchier softer/singing parts. I suspect the music is only good if you are looking for this sound. This may be one of the few metal albums I'll end up loving this year. I want to check for their older stuff now as well.
no thanks
:gag:
Yeah this album is wack. I jumped the gun because the first four tracks were aight, and number 4 has one of the best Metal choruses since KSE's Rose of Sharyn. But the album has no replay value and I might delete it from the computer.
I am also disappointed with Disturbed's album.
I don't know, I've been listening to Hip Hop 2008 albums. Most of the "Alt" stuff I listen to hasn't been from this year. Crystal Castles is aight though

Fleet Foxes album is straight up incredible. I'm listening to it now for the first time, I'm on track 9 and I already know this is album of the year. EP was incredible as well.

I been meaning to check that, although I've never heard of them or their music. What genre are they? I imagine if its praised so much I'd like some of it whatever it is tho...

Its kinda a mix of sounds...its quite folk inspired but theres elements of classic rock and baroque pop, and they use a lot of choral vocals. Its just beautiful music to chill to.

pretty sweet list, except I think that Fleet Foxes album will fade into oblivion. im not that impressed. sounds like a lot of bands I've heard lately; kinda hippy-ish with vocal harmony and a super reverbed-out lead. Not that thats a bad formula...its actually pretty pleasing, but I just didnt hear too many memorable things.

I don't get that Ladyhawke record at all. Why wouldn't someone just listen to Blondie? I've only listened a few times though.

Zayus. I just can't be bothered. It was enough of a hassle getting past the network connections thing to sign up and log in.
I dunno what it is with the Ladyhawke album. It's too catchy.
Some other dope records: Rahim, Metronomy, Tobacco , U.S. Girls, Grouper, Brightblack Morning Light, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Fabulous Diamonds, White Denim, The Muslims, Women, Beach House, Black Mountain, Born Ruffians, Brendan Canning, Deerhunter, Ratatat, These Are Powers, Videotape, Japandi, Crystal Stilts, Nice Face, Wavves, etc.
It's been a super dope year for rock but hip-hop has been pretty weak in my opinion. First time in a long time a hip-hop record won't make my top 20 records of the year. At least it's looking that way.

****, now I have to download about half those records. I'm gonna give Q-Tip a nod for top 10 though. Can't stop listening to the Renaissance, and he changed up the old songs just enough to keep them fresh.
I found a blog that posts up about 5-6 indie albums a day, I've been getting most of my music off that for a while but it's a bit hit & miss. Got Deerhunter off it though - great album.
Ah, I haven't heard the Q-Tip record. But I read some good things about it hopefully it's dope.
