I trained this 14yr old getting ready for football. I could tell he wasnt looking right, told him goto the bathroom. Dude was on the ground face over the toilet:sad:
We checked his pulse, he was ok. Copped him a carbo force and he was ok after, but we cut the workout.
I trained legs with my boy yesterday and he ended up throwing up in the parking lot after. Some splashed on my leg:gag:
I felt bad for them but I toldem to be proud at the same time

Aww man, you aren't doing the crossfit stuff? Leg days are the killer I use to look forward to them and regret them at the same time. My leg days were.
5x5 sldl
5X5 Squats
5x20 lunges
5x20 leg extensions
The hardest exercise movement I have ever done was 20 rep squats wow.

We did some high volume
leg ext 15 reps 3 sets
lunges long path about 3 sets(to wall and back) with weight
**** squats 15 reps 3 sets (I hate hacks, I prefer freeweight, but form is easier for them on it)
leg curl 15 reps 3 sets
stif legged dead lift 10-15
standing calf raises 15-20 reps
seated calf raises 20 reps

You already know I'm on my functional training thing right now. But That looks like a killer workout. The workout Milso did was way to machine oriented for my taste but you have to use machines because if you didn't as tired as those monsters was someone could of really hurt themselves. I don't know when or if I am going back to bb workouts but if I do it may be only for strength purposes instead of hypertrophy.
PS: I can't belive you ran your clients into the mud like that bro. Thats how it should be. As Ronnie Coleman once said everybody wanna look like a bodybuilder but don't nobody wanna lift no heavy azz weight.

I just told them to use a weight they were comfortable with and if it was too easy we increased it a lil bit. The 1st few workouts I let them get used to the motions but this week we turned it up a bit and it made them sick
Its been good tho, other clients complained of being sore and sweating during leg workouts when they havent before. Another guy said he never gest sore, I had him doing pushups and pullups until I felt he couldnt do anymore..I had a goal set of 100 but he couldnt even get to it.....he was sore the next few days.

Lol. You know I got to drop my crossfit in there. You should have them do tabata squats or burpees things like that for anarobic conditioning just to show them that you don't always need weights or machines. Are they just trying to get in shape or are they trying to get bigger for sports or lose weight for the beach?

They are trying to get bigger, but I use functional training aswell with some clients. Im open to stuff to try on them, Im not one of those people that are set in my ways or my way is always right. I'll throw the modified tabatas in on my female client on Tuesday. I usually make them do regular ones

Legs, legs and some more legs. Gotta hit them hard due to the size/length of the leg muscles. I remember back when I started squating hard(about 5 years ago), I would always almost get to the point of puking my brains out. but never did actually throw up, just got close.
I now do mostly just (free weight) front squats, lunges and leg extensions. I only do abit of leg presses( once every two weeks).
As far as showing/training folks leg, you gotta start them slow and then pick up the intensity on a weekly basis.

That's not that much for calves necessarily. I mean...what point would there be in doin' less than 15 reps minimum?
10 sets would probably be excessive, but 4-6 sets of 15-20 should be standard.
And you guys did **** squats instead of regular squats so I'm gonna imagine the lunges probably took more out of them than the **** squats since you don't have to worry about anything other than liftin' the weight with hacksquats.
At least with lunges, you gotta have at least a small degree of balance.

LOL...I've never come close to pukin' from doin' legs...
I've become dizzy, though...
When you're down doin' leg presses and you suddenly jump up after a set...
Even doin' squats, I've become light headed from comin' up.
But never got sick.
Now, I've thrown up in wrestling practice a bunch of times.

That is intense. I used to watch the kids in high school wrestle. They had mad garbage cans in the auditorium for that.
Well today I had this dude come in and all I had him do was pushups, assisted dips and assisted pull ups. He did abs after.
He said he felt sick to, so I bought him a carbo force to sip on. I have a lady thats like 250lbs and shes been fine...weird

How many hours are u puttin in a week?
40
but id say 15-20 of training clients
so if i have nothing to do, I use the pc, workout, talk or Nap in the morning
u worked dude too hard. Deadlifts, lunges and standing calve raises are done on back day's...not combined (for me). Dont want to catch a lawsuit....take it down a notch on the kid

Lunges should be generally done on leg days. Since its a leg exercise, focuses on quads, glutes (and hams) mostly.

after a good set of squats though, lunges wouldn't be as effective as on day focused on back IMO. to each his own though. I combine mine with back days

it would still be quite effective, so much so that many trainers, top lifters and bodybuilders incorporate it in their leg routine. I do lunges at the end of my leg day, sometimes in the beginning but mostly at the end after pounding my quads with squats(usually 4 to 5 sets).
Remember the leg muscle, especially quads, is quite a large muscle and in order to fully develop them and get them to grow properly; you really need to apply enough pressure for it to get a good pump and then get the growing process going. Some do it by just doing tons of sets of squats(like 8 to 12 sets(2 to 4 reps each)) and others by dividing it into different exercises(squats, lunges, leg extensions, leg curls leg press and such).

I do regular deadlifts on back days, stiff legged for Hamstrings on leg day. I know stiff leg can hit the lower back also, but it is one of the best hamstring exercises.
They are paying to get him ready for football and believe me, what I'm doing is nothing near what hes going to get from his coaches and his father. He trains with me twice a week, one upper and one lower body.
The weight hes using he can successfully accomplish his reps with effort. Hes been doing the same exercises for 2 weeks, but we added some weights now. Hes 14, I'm not going to put him in danger of injury, plus hes still growing and also has a shoulder injury so there are limitations set.
They cant sue anyway if they wanted to, they sign a waiver/legal doc.

Why wouldn't you do lunges and calves on the same day you do your legs?

ok at end of my current program, i may incorporate lunges into my leg day routine. Btw, i've gained like 6 lbs in the last 3 weeks :king:

i get on the sit down calve machine on leg day but as i said...i may change it up next time around

A lot of people throw up in their first gruelling exercises, in time they will always thank you for it.
