Hm... I'm a PFunk fanatic (more or less) but I don't know.
I do vaguely remember seeing one video clip from their earlier days ('70-'71) that looked like Soul Train. They did a song from their first album, "I've Got a Thing"--a really un-Soul Train-like song that sounds like Hendrix on uppers and downers at the same time (if you've never heard it).
I don't remember seeing an audience reaction to it in the clip, probably because the audience was looking at them like they had roaches crawling out of their eyes. :laugh: They probably weren't invited back to Soul Train after that--not even after they got famous.
