View Full Version : Jay-Z, Vol.2, Vol.3, and The Dynasty Are All Garbage

Shock title, I know.

The statement however shouldn't be that shocking to anyone that's pulled out any of these three albums and tried listening to them. There are 4-5 good songs on each of these albums TOPS. Not to take anything away from these songs, they are quite good. But the rest of the filler is utter crap. I try to think about what jay was thinking when he recorded these songs, and I surmise that jay, the engineer, the producer, the assistant enginneer, and the runner were all smoking a copious amount of crack cocaine.

vol.3 maybe thats the only one i can agree on

vol.2? chill
and the dynasty is underrated.

Vol 3 had a few cuts on it..

Change the Game on Dynasty and the Intro were cool,
Reservoir Dogs was cool on Vol.2

apart from that......

Vol 3 is probably my 3rd favorite album of his, only 'Pop 4 Roc' was wack

Dynasty was solid all the way thru except for 'Holla', has some of his most slept on songs (Where Have You Been/Squeeze First)

Vol. 2 was kind of all over the place, but i still like it. the replay value is hurt by the fact half the album was released as singles, and some of the songs got a bit played out.

2/3/Dynasty>>>>>>>BP2/Black Album/Kingdom Come

everyone always hates on vol. 2 and talks bout how it's so commercial and overrated sh1t.

that's just cause "can i get a...", "hard knock life," and "Money, Cash, Hoes" got so much airplay people got sick of them. But there are some classics on there that people always overlook.

Just a week ago, It's like that, Reservoir dogs, Coming of age 2. these are all classics that rarely get a mention.

Hard knock life, money, cash, hoes, and n*gga what, n*gga who are all hot tracks, they just got so overplayed i had to back away for awhile.

Can't agree, I don't think any Jay albums are garbage, Kingdom Come is the worst.

Vol. 3 Underrated - 4 Mics
Vol. 2 & Dynasty while I think are overrated are still no lower than 3.5 mics.

I honestly have a lot of love for blueprint 2, I actually enjoy the filler on that.. kingdom come is yeah.. uh.. ok worse than vol.3 but not vol.2 definitely not dynasty.

Squeeze first is in my top 10 jay songs, but you can have the rest of the album besides the last song

dont believe that either

You, Me, Him and Her=great posse cut
the intro is crazy
This Cant Be Life
1-900-Hustler

Dynasty would probably rate as my 4th favorite, thought the production was very good. it was only until BP 2 that Grey Hova started to lose me a little bit

for a hot sec i thought threadstarter was right

don't get me wrong...i got all these albms and i gave them fair bang...but RD, Blueprint, Black Album, American Gangster (my projection)...even Vol.1 have a more classic hip hop vibe than Vol.2, 3 cuz the beats jus don't stand up anymore, they're boring

...maybe not Dynasty dude

i was actually gonna make a thread about all of jays albums. i'll hold my opinion until then.

wtf does that have to do with my opinion?

I BANGED those albums when they came out, I am an intelligent person, I understood these albums when they came out, and I've re-listened for 10 years and have developed a decent understanding of the direction each took and have decided that they suck. fukk you. sorry, people agree with me.

Vol 3 had some trash on it, but still was solid (So Ghetto, Intro, Big Pimpin, Snoopy Track, NYMP, Do It Again, Some Like It Hot), and Vol 2 was tight besides the fact that 5 of the songs were big hits that got played out. Not sure how you front on The Dynasty though.

vol. 2: decent, lived up to most of the hype

Not a diss really, but at 11 "money cash hoes", or "give it to me" meant nothing to you, and sounds dated now. To me they were motivational anthems as i pursued HS ps$$y and fun with my friends.

The same way I don't relate to a lot of early "classic" albums from when I was 11, It'd be easy for me to call 2pacalypse now, *****z4life, or Low end theory Garbage cause I didn't or don't like them. But "Findem Fcuk em and flee" or "Check the Rhyme" were some of their party and bull$hit anthems. So to anyone who was in HS or older back then, they may be classic albums cause it was the soundtrack to their adolescence. Where I don't enjoy those albums at all. Doesn't make em wack, just not for me, and I recognize that, and let the heads older than me discuss their classics with out me chiming in with my opinion cause they wasn't for me.

I just turned 28 yesterday and you'd probably think a lot of my favorite albums are wack, just by nature of you not being old enough to appreciate them on the same level back when they dropped, and them sounding dated if you went back and bumped them now.

Trust me, in a couple years they'll be a new group of people on these boards, pontificating about how wack "Get rich or Die Trying", "The Carter", or whatever else you were playing at 16-17 is. And you'll read the title and shake your head too.

Vol's 2 & 3 along with the dynasty changed music.

I dont how many songs posts vol. 2 had the kids singing on the hook like hard knock life.

Jigga what is garbage? Even bonny and clyde II >>>> any timbo beat in the last maybe 8 years.

Jay goin at mase on ride or die, exposin that he was ghost writen for puff and making more money off mases albums!

Give to me on dynasty is what made the neptunes a #1 biller. They were hired gunz before that, but jay gave them credibility.

Change the game over a westcoast beat?

All of those albums are heat rocks homie.

I think you underestimate the taste I had in high school.. When i was in high school, I was on sohh, I took your advice (or people with similar advice) on music because back then sohh was poppin and had really smart people in the spot, so I bumped these songs in high school like they just came out. In essence, I probably had a very similar high school experience to you. Not to mention I still put in vol. 2 and vol. 3 during parties and stuff during high school for big pimpin, do it again, and obviously "i just wanna love you" and the albums to me, AS ALBUMS, are wack. and I always kind of thought this but kinda put on my jay stan and defended them before
