Pac by far, you could even argue that he was the better lyricist...and i wish you would try to compare godson or stillmatic to either of pac's 3 classics, fucck outta here

both are top 5, but even nas knows and knew what was up

Pac does has better song writing capabilities though
..I'll admit that much

I think the thing that Nas and Pac have over Jay though is that
they can make introspective tracks and fill entire albums with them

thats the only reason I would put Pac above Nas and both
of them above Jay. at least Imo.

exactly...the entire basis for lyricism is song writing, not metaphors or any of the other technical sh1t...smokey robinson is arguably one of the greatest lyricists ever

pac was a better song writer, period...nas is a great writer in his own right, but when you have songs like "big girl" and "big things" being executed poorly, it dont stack up against the best song writer in hip hop

not to mention their ear for beats, pac took a gang of nobody producers and made a classic album in 4-7 days...no frills, no gloss, just straight up raw sh1t manifested into a great piece of work

i'm a big pac fan too but you need to put that stannish behavior to bed. we're not comparing pac with talib kweli here

AP: Here are lyrics from 1999's "Nas is Coming": "I bit the fruit from the Serpent, apocalyptic, get bent, stay splifted." And then in your new song "Suicide Bounce" you say, "The devil's calling, but I don't answer." Where does that change come from?

Nas: Just understanding my warrior spirit. There is genius out there, when they go "Vote or Die" that's genius, but what's missing is that warrior spirit. There's is a whole different spirituality that goes with the warrior spirit that Patrice Lumumba, Malcolm X, that they died for. Muhammad Ali had that. Richard Pryor had the warrior spirit. That's what's missing from hip-hop, and the only one that had it was Pac. I'm nowhere near the mind state he was. The stuff that he wrote, he was 21 years old and here I am 31 years old, and I'm still nowhere as deep as Tupac.
pac could've/would've been more than a rapper

word. that cat was on some revolutionary sh1t.
His influence on the new rappers coming out of the south is so
clear (Wayne, Jeezy,Buck, MasterP)...

his ONE NATION sh1t was on some other sh1t.
I dont blame Nas for being a Pac stan.

The only Pac album that I REALLY liked was Makaveli. Outside of that album, I'd put Stillmatic, Illmatic, Lost Tapes, and It Was Written over any Pac album.

Sorry, you should ask somebody else to rate artistic pieces of work. They were all made at different times of their lives. Who knows what direction Pac's music would've gone in, had he matured fully. Those are all albums I enjoy, for different reasons.

I brought up Talib Kweli because you are quick to dismiss Nas as some regular emcee.

And the stan sh!t comes from you reacting "badly" to an individual because they said something vulgar about 'Pac. I won't go into it because you probably know what I'm referring to.

you say keep the thread focused..but then you cant help but dikkride your favorite rapper before leaving..smh.

Jay has an extremely limited range of music...flossing,money,etc.
He does it well no doubt, but most of his albums sound
the same and there is too much filler in what I call the "Volumes"(Vol1,2,3 etc.)

Nas is probably the closest the East coast will ever get to the
greatness of Pac but he cant compete with Pac's discography.
Jay isnt even close although he is a legend.
And people sh1ttin on Stillmatic, Godson...stop it.lol.

How do u figure when most of Jay's catalog is him talking about himself? Pac and Nas didn't always tell stories about themself, but maybe something they've witnessed or someone they knew.

Keep Ya Head Up (Pac has no kids)
The Message (Nas never got shot)
Jay's whole catalog (he's rich, he loves his momma/nephews/family, Marcy Projects, he sold drugs, he's richer than u)

Pac and Nas are actually my #1 and #2 respectfully, but Jay talks about his life more than they talked about theirs.

pac was one of the few rapper that was getting better with time...me against the world is one of the greatest rap albums EVER...and two albums albums later 2pac was still not at his peak as an artist

lyrically, the 7 day theory was a HUGEEEEEE JUMP from MATW, he would have gotten better from that point...not saying he would never fall off, but his momentum in his prime would have at least allowed him to carry that quality/growing ablity over into a couple more releases, would you agree?

I brought up Talib Kweli because you are quick to dismiss Nas as some regular emcee.

why do you have selective vision? how did i dismiss nas as a regular emcee when HE'S IN MY TOP 5 WHICH I CLEARLY POINTED OUT, i dont have any regular emcees in my top 20, let alone top 5 doggie...you're making up sh1t, i said pac hands down is a BETTER SONG WRITER

ok...you're refering to a stabbing? you realize that this was THE DAY THAT 2PAC DIED RIGHT? you do realize that was in child corrections where people get stabbed for a lot of things, realize also that i was 14 at the time, the word stan was not even invented yet, stop trying to figure me out my nigg, it's gonna take more than a post or two to get an accurate synopsis, let me deal with my own demons and comment on the topic at hand

lol...Pac always talks about being rich, Nas had that whole fake "escobar" thing  ....the consensus on a whole is that Jay is one of the greatest to ever do it. so GTFOH

plus he just dropped the only hip hop classic in minute

the whole conscious emcee thing is stupid if you ask me
....its only cool if you think you can learn something from a high school
dropout and backup dancer..or former drug dealers ... lol

Improving and growing are two different things. When Jay grew into Kingdom Come, (most) people didn't like it. Does that mean he's lost his ability to make a good song? No.

My point is: Nas isn't rapping about the same things 10 years on. From Shootouts to Getting Married. Artists grow but the fans don't. I don't like to speculate but Pac would have moved on from the thug life.

Both are the 2 best to ever do it but I have to give it to Pac by a slight margin. His music made him an icon and he was indelible in his stances on many topics where as Nas tends to back out and b!tch up a little bit when the heat is turned up or after he gets a whole lot of criticism.

I don't think you can say either is better than the other by far. Its a close call with whomever you pick.

aight then we agree

as far as what pac could have done after "thug lyfe" (people often misconstrue what this meant to him, it wasnt about wildin and shooting n1ggas, it was a mantra, a code, not a catch phrase)

who knows from a social stand point, i do know that he had plans to go into poltics, if pac was living you'd prolly see him standing behind barrak obama and putting money in the campaigns and programs, he had plans that he was not mature enough to put into full swing but i think he would have gotten there

he died at 24 man...i'm only 25, and i know i have a lot to learn about being a man especially not having a father...i can only imagine what it felt like to be right out of "child hood" with no kind of guidence with a good portion of young black males looking to you for direction...thats a lot of fuccking pressure to handle

the growth i'm talking about is artistically...i mean i have no concrete evidence of course, but if you look at his career, he was one of the few rappers to start off good, and end up EXCEPTIONAL, jay and nas started off strong, declined, had to re-invent ect...they peaked on their first couple albums, pac's artistic scope was climbing with every album, the momentum that he had before he died was insane

not to mention he still had one more album with death row, access to quality production and more time...he could have easily made another great album or two before a noticable decline if at all, wishful thinking i suppose, but his career and catalog are unique in that, most rappers peak early, pac was still building on his skill set by his 7th album

smh at thug image...what u done in the streets? if pac wuz a b1tch to u i want sum credentials....east coast raised Pac wuz a lame..sum years in the Bay changed all that and he became a real wild nikka, but stil wit the intelligence...Pac got better and better wit each album, its not even questionable...u realize the greatness of 7th day theory? If u think nas is deep u a corny nikka straight up...Pac had that stret game u cant learn from just readin books...I laugh at u lil smug f*ggots in luv wit ya lil kufis on writin out lies...Nas will never have the street luv Pac had,the classic songs, the intelligence...he still alive but only cuz Pac wuznt around to drive him to suicide...Nas aint seein Pac and never will...most u nikkas never heard sh1t from Pac fa real.
