Maybe when you compared him to Larry Bird you were implying that black people hate on him or whatever, but if that's the case then I think that you're wrong about both Eminem and Bird. Larry Bird always got respect from me and my friends as we watched him growing up, I didn't know anybody who thought that Bird was overrated. As far as Eminem, I don't see anybody hating on him either. He has received some backlash from the mainstream at times, but that has only made him more popular with the mainstream youth like you explained. The black hiphop community doesn't seem to be hating on him, we don't even really care about him. When's the last time a random MC hated threw a shot at Eminem just because he's successful or hyped up as 1 of the best? Jay Z gets that constantly, and that's why I think don't agree with this thread or anybody that vouches for it.

I don't deny that he can spit, but I'm just not a fan. The songs that he's made were never all of that to me. I'm not an expert on his music but from what I've heard I don't relate. I don't relate to wanting to kill my mother, or dreaming of killing my baby's mother or anything like that. I've also never pushed ki's nor will you catch me in the South of France on a yacht, but I can still relate to Jay. I relate to his story of growing up poor and making it, because I've done the same on a much smaller scale of course. I asked you who hates on Eminem, and I don't really see an answer to that question. Maybe when you compared him to Larry Bird you were implying that black people hate on him or whatever, but if that's the case then I think that you're wrong about both Eminem and Bird. Larry Bird always got respect from me and my friends as we watched him growing up, I didn't know anybody who thought that Bird was overrated. As far as Eminem, I don't see anybody hating on him either. He has received some backlash from the mainstream at times, but that has only made him more popular with the mainstream youth like you explained. The black hiphop community doesn't seem to be hating on him, we don't even really care about him. When's the last time a random MC hated threw a shot at Eminem just because he's successful or hyped up as 1 of the best? Jay Z gets that constantly, and that's why I think don't agree with this thread or anybody that vouches for it.
I don't deny that he can spit, but I'm just not a fan. The songs that he's made were never all of that to me. I'm not an expert on his music but from what I've heard I don't relate. I don't relate to wanting to kill my mother, or dreaming of killing my baby's mother or anything like that. I've also never pushed ki's nor will you catch me in the South of France on a yacht, but I can still relate to Jay. I relate to his story of growing up poor and making it, because I've done the same on a much smaller scale of course. I grew up in the hood too, and I understand the mentality behind thinking that you can get rich from selling drugs. I understand and identify with the mentality of guys who take to the streets period. Jay embodies the hustler, and he proves that you can take that mindset and apply it within the rules of society.

there is backlash to doing something at a high level in a black dominated field, he's on his way to replacing 2pac as being the highest selling rapper ever, so i think it's only natural that some black people try to downplay his talent, the media severly overrates him, and some of "us" underrate him because we are scared of some supposed take over of white MC's...em is one of the few rappers who are overrated and underrated at the same time

i have no choice but to like em...i got into his style and ability way before i knew what he looked like, to change how i felt after the fact would be a b1tch move, and as long as his peers respect them (he's earned the co-sign of chuck d, krs-1, rakim, who really cares what you bitter n1ggas think at this point?) and white america overrating the sh1t out of him, he will always see more love than hate

Jay gets hated on cuz he's excessively materialistic, values biting, and flaunts his wealth in the face of people who actually care about the artform as well as ya average people who in the everday struggle.... he considers it being flashy and flossy... basically he took puffy's idea of making it, and applied lyricism. It doesnt negate the fact that he's a shallow biter.


not to mention he basically implies in his music/videos that light skinned/closer to white girls are prettier than brown/dark skinned sistas

and he doesn't sincerely pay respect or tribute to the people who got him to the place where he is... and he feels chumming it up with white billionaires and hanging out wit white elite in corporate and mainstream America is the pinnacle of his success

you do know he's in the buisness of selling music? songs like "the real slim shady" are not songs that eminem WANTS to release, jimmy iovine will not press your album up until you give him something to sell

when "my name is" worked and made em huge, the puppets at interscope figure lets do what works...em tried to get marshall mathers LP pressed up without the "corny first single" and it got sent back to him, thats what happens when you're one of the only high selling rap artists on the lable...that need your sh1t to work at any cost, so whatever gimmick made him famous, they are going to pimp it until it actually doesnt work anymore

em is having problems with his current album because of this issue, he does NOT want to drop these corny first single, which is why they are usually followed up with some of his best records, "ass like that" is not eminem trying to convince you that the song is dope, it's em putting out a song that his label thinks can re-capture the success of "my name is" on some level

why do you think 50 cent keeps duplicating "in da club" or at least trying to? he has to, this is why rappers really need to think about wether being on a major is worth all that comes with it
