Real talk!

Most of you prolly first hard Nas from Nastrodamus single and that was wack, so no way at 12 or 13 would you have gone out an copped it, sh1t, your pocket money wouldn't have been enough, so by the time you heard Stillmatic, when most of you were 15 and just started listening to hip hop more an more, you heard this new kid, like ''Oh, Nas is kinda dope, I'ma cop his album when I get some $$ for my B'day.''

Then when you heard how good it was, you was like, ''I'ma have to see what else he dropped'', and then went an copped Illmatic for $5 at your local store which had it on sale due to Stillmatic droppin.

You know I'm right :king:

Word, and threadstarter aint.

Contrary to your belief, I heard Illmatic back in 96. I didn't know who he was or what he was saying, an actually thought it was a little kid rappin cuz of the cover. Same year I really started listening to hip hop, and when I heard ATLiens.

It was before If I Ruled The World dropped as well, but it was from my friends brother who was bumpin it, an not because I went out my way to the record shop to cop it. Heard it by total accident.

...I agree.

...az a matter of fact, I just read an old BLAZE Magazine from 2000 that had their "50 greatest MCs of all time"...Nas wasn't even in the top ten. The summary said his low ranking was due to his albums after Illmatic being considered weak/wack. :laugh:

...Now n!ggas claiming he the GOAT...FOH! :laugh::laugh:

Hammer/KrisKross withstanding, 1996 was the year I started listening to hiphop too. If I Ruled the World was the single, then Street Dreams.

PERSONALLY..I heard Illmatic after I heard IWW (first album I've ever bought)..which was back in 96..It's true that Nas gained a lot of "fans" during" the Stillmatic/Ether days...

But since the faqqot ass threadstarter is trying to diss the 2nd GOAT..I'm sure if you change this title to..."95% of SOHH heard Reasonable Doubt after The Blueprint" it would make sense too.

...Yeah, Chuck was up there...Rakim was ranked #1, KRS (who was on the Blaze staff at the time) was ranked #2...and Biggie #3. Others in the top ten were Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Tupac, Kool G Rap and Slick Rick (I think...not sure on all their positions though).

Why do you think Jay made such a big deal out of Nas? He could've Prodigy'd him, or 'Half-a-line''d him - but he didn't.

'Cause in order for him to be the don, Nas had to go

It's hard for me to relate to this since I've been fortunate to witness the beginning of many important careers so I had something to go on when I bought their 1st LP's. I've said this before and I'll say it again...the impact that Nas had when he came into the game is yet to be matched (IMO) from an artistic and lyrical point of view.
