People act like those albums he released when he was dropping an album every year didn't suck. Everyone was dissing those albums. Dude was making cake 50 Cent type albums. Dude has 4 average to decent albums in between reasonable doubt and blue print and 2 duds post blueprint. I'm not knocking dude's status as one of the all time greats but if you compare his discography with other ATGs who never dropped wack albums............you get the point

But yeah, i dont agree with the OP cuz to me jay only has a few wack albums, and they are wack by his standards. Not absolute garbage. Its just some of them aren't what people are used to hearing when they listen to a jay-z album

yea, i'm like the only n1gga on earth that likes KC, i still listen to it, hollywood is one of my favorite joints
i used to rate vol. 3 lower, but it grew on me, i hated it when i first heard it, vol. 2 is the opposite...if you woulda asked me when i BOUGHT IT, vol.2 was the greatest thing since sliced bread...but as i tried to go back to it, i remembered why i skip so many songs, cuz like 6 or 7 of them were singles with videos, not counting the remix to money cash hoes...i'm like damn, this was still a good album, but it's commercial as fucck, it was glossy, still had so much impact, it's a real hard album to rate

i hate vol 3 lol
first of all...you gotta understand, maybe on these other n1ggas scales, 3.5 is a bad album...to me, thats actually good/above average, so in reality if you look at my list, jay really has no "wack" albums...even the lower rated ones have some great material with either one or two things taking away from the overall quality
for example...vol 3 had some shoddy hook work, but even on the wack songs he was spitting his ass off, almost at the peak of his actual 16 spitting ability, he just wasnt a complete song maker when it came to balence/hooks until he hit BP
thats why i dig jay man..everything that was weak about his overall game, he took steps to improve, from his voice not being the best and delivery not being the hardest...he somehow improved
n1gga used to NEED dame dash on stage just to keep people awake...and now he's one got one of the best live performances in the game all the while being himself...he aint animated, his connection with the crowd is intimate, now his hook game is much better, he's conceptually improving and adding more substance (which was another of his weak spots)
dude works hard at his craft man...

It had a lot of gems on there, but I just didnt like the sound of the album. Not saying too many guest appreances are a bad thing, becuase its not ...but in one stretch of the album (tracks 5-12) ...there was somebody else featured on the album (except for Some Like It Hot).
I just fukked with Jay's solo style on that album more. When he threw other people on his records it just fukked up the mood of the album to me.
Hate that opinion all you want. If anybody read what I posted earlier I stated Jay has one of the most impeccable discographies ever. But Vol.3 was weak to me.

kinda like how the outlawz didnt need to be on that many tracks of makaveli...they didnt take anything away from the songs, but sometimes i picture joints like hail marry without them on it and i'm like FUCCK, even tho they performed, i still resented that the took time away from 2pac at his lyrical peak

I really stopped checking a lot of his albums after vol 2, and just listened to American Gangsta. He has a lot of material and hes a legend, but the reason why people dont put him up there with Big or other GOATs(?) all the time is that in his time in Hip Hop, the scene was weaker and generally all the other acts that were his comp were dead or no longer 'radio friendly'
Still a legend and one of the greatest tho, but some of his albums reflect that era and **** that people dont like about Hip Hop

even though I agree with your ratings of Jay-Z's discography pretty much, I think Black album is a classic but other than that you are on point. But your rating for Nas' albums expose your bias towards him. And Street's Disciple = Blueprint 2 and they are pretty good albums, they could both be made into amazing albums if condensed into one disc. But calling IWW, Stillmatic and especially I Am "masterpieces" is funny. I Am is a masterpiece? There are like 5 or 6 tracks i listen to on that album, I would say The Dynasty and Volume 1 are as good or better.

the truth is jay-z watered down his music so much that he became the "blueprint" for modern hip-hop
by the time Vol. 2 came jay-z had already comprimsed himself too much
the truth is jayz got on off ja-rule, irv gotti & murder inc.
jay-z has only like 20 good songs from 2000 & on.
if the pressure is put on me I can say only thing memorable from dynasty is the where's my daddy song & 1900 hustler
blueprint got the last track momma love me & ill never change

the thing that will always keep jay from being the "best" in my mind is something very simple that many may disagree with. Its the fact that he constantly has to remind us "and if i aint better than big, im the closest one"
"im the best rapper alive" and on and on and on. its almost as if he cant let his catalog stand on its own merits, he has to CONSTANTLY remind you that he is the greatest. honestly i think Scarface and Nas are better GOAT candidates, but thats only my opinion. Jay is def the most succsessful, but the greatest... hmmmm

sunzoo you retarded for likin that hollywood track. I don't even kno jayz stan b*tches that like that trash
for one homie, the song is a concept record disguised as a hit, the beat was hot, and people think that just because beyonce is on it that it's some syrupy girl song, it aint even about that, it's about the ills of hollywood...it's the SAME EXACT SONG AS "BLUNT ASHES" by nas...just done in jay-z's style
he rode the fucck out of that beat and there were plenty quotables...as for the rest of your post, all the sh1t is subjective man, you just sound like you arent a fan of jay-z, nothing wrong with that...but all this "jay compromised" this and that is irrelevant, he reached people with his music and put out quality products on a consistent basis
people often warn me that the fame aint for the faint of heart
it can change those, that say they had love for you, into strangers
when ya fame starts, it's a chain reaction...loco-motion like when a train departs, stranger things have happened, rappin, stackin, platinum plaq'in....
please man, jigga ate that beat, aint too many rappers in the game that could have pulled that song off, easily the best jay and beyonce collabo

 how can you say Jay-Z has the worst catalogue then turn around & say Pa'has no wakc albums GTFOH. damn i hate people who say Pac has all these classics, where are they? all i see is MATW & MAYBE 7 Day Theory could be "classic". Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.? wack to average. Better Dayz? wack IMO besides a few songs. AEOM is a solid 4.5 but not "classic" IMO.
i def agree that Jay has one of the wort catalogs for a GOAT contender but i just hate when people act like everything Pac does is like a cd from god.
