albums mark time periods. if it dropped now it'd still be considered a classic hiphop album but it wouldn't have the same allure and aura. yall realize he dropped that in 94? in 1994 son was rappin like that, hahaa, thats why the sh*t is so crazy. madd n!ggas flow like that now, they aint as nice as nas of course but i'm sayin, the album wouldn't be as "OHHHHHHHH SH!T!!!!!" if it dropped today.

Young nicca wit no sense of HIP-HOP history or culture. You and your kind are what's wrong with HIP-HOP. No respect for classic material and real music. Go back to listenin to Young __________ (Fill in the name here) and yell about how he's the greatest rapper of all time when he can only eat becuz of the success of the niccas you diss.

agree. illmatic was good but yall old nigggas be going over board with that. people listen to it was written more.
If it dropped today the first thing people would say is "it sounds old school", "he's out dated", "cheap ass soundin beats". Only 4-5 of the tracks would stick. SO it would mostly be discarded, and would take about 5 years (the changing of the current sound/trends) for people to go backand listen to it and pay attention.
Honestly, I didn't even love Illmatic when it first dropped. I liked about 5 tracks, the problem was that if you fast forwarded (it was on cassette) for even a little bit, your at the end. So, thats when I started playing it all the way through and started to like it.

From the ice cream trucks to the fourty ounce tops
All white Air Force Ones to fake Jacob watch
A few reasons why I drive the Bently hard top
Use it in my songs cause I live it on the block
Tattoo it on my face let the whole world watch
I'm that type of ***** yall made my city bigger dawg
Turn the TV off got tired of watchin Jigga boss
So we told our mom's we was lookin for jobs
When we was really in the record store lookin for Nas
Project of the ghetto, Ghetto and the project
From compton to being Dre's number one prospect so.....

stop with this dumb ass "IF" threads, that attract these dumbass posters. Illmatic dropped in 1994 and sounds like a album from the 1990's. "IF" it dropped today it would sound different because hip hop is about beats now. Few niccas can even rap coherently.

this is just another "I want some internet attention" thread. its impossible to determined the impact of an album that came out in the certain time. the market has changed dramatically since illmatic dropped. it would brick just as it did back then but worst since nas would never have had the chance to blow up with a second lp. I love illmatic but with all these soulja boys and bow wows and bullsh*t, nas wouldnt have a chance.
