say what?

You ever watch the show? The dude Dunbar always gets pissed off and flips out on someone. The dark vibe of the beat seems like something they'd play during one of these scenes.

You definitely are a focused dude. I saw that you spit on someone elses shyt in another thread. You seem hungry.

You should try and get a couple beats from these dope producers we got up in Beat Club and make an EP or LP or somin. That would be fresh. If you do that I'll make sure the joint is upped so err'one could check it out.

when are they showing it again? They'll play this episode everyday until next week's ep. I think tomorrow you can go to MTV.com and watch it online.

My beat comes in a little after they show them @ the Aesop Restaurant. It's when those fools are arguing about why the camera has no battery power left.

Fill me in on how you got MTV to play your shyt, please.so my uncle was the counsel for a well known "career builder" website and he knew a lawyer who knew an entertainment lawyer out in L.A. who had a contact @ the production company that did Real World and that these guys were looking for music. Well, my uncle knew that I produce and told me about the opportunity. To be honest, I thought it was bull shyt and I didn't expect ANYTHING to come of it but I sent them a CD anyway. This was in October of '05. In February of '06 I get an e-mail out of the blue with licensing agreements attached. They liked my shyt and wanted to license all the songs. Since then I've had a half a dozen placements.

Moral of the story...it's who you know...

I said this before...this goes to show you, sometimes the beats that YOU think are flames other people could care less about. That's why you don't get attached to ANY beat you make. Just let these mu'phuckas listen and if they like something be like, "Aight, just get me the paperwork and let's do this."

Good sh1te on the placement Aje. Major f*ckin props becuz it aint easy mayne. Keep grindin.thanks, fam. It's tricky, man, like, this whole bussiness. I lucked out on that contact - which I'm glad I got - but I'm like, "Damn, what would'a happened if that contact fell through?" Sometimes I feel like getting into this industry is like becoming a free mason (or any other secret society). It's like you gotta know somebody or just get some sort of huge break. It's strange. I'm rambling and if you're still reading at this point, props to you.

But man, I'm no where near my goal. I'm so far from what I want to do. And even though I appreciate the placements that I've received it's only gotten me more hungry.

Trust, you weren't rambling. You were pretty much speaking the same sh!t that's stays on my mind too as far as just trying to break through. And I mos def feel you on the Masonic referrence, like a brother has to be on the list or atleast know one to become one. Just like this Common lyric "Why do I need ID just to get ID?". That's the classic mantra for all of the fellow up-and-comers. You got blessed by your Unc and that's cool as hell. It's all about finding that crack in the windsheild to spread across so somebody will take notice of the moves you makin, ya dig....

I used to read a lot of inspirational quotes and just wise words from wise people. Just some personal growth type sh!t. And that's when I came across the quote I'm sure all of us have heard and probably use:
"Luck is when opportunity meets preparation" and nothing can be more truer than that.

Your MTV spot was a perfect example. When the opportunity showed up you were prepared and got tha shot. I know for a fact that NONE of us are where we want to be in the production game, but if there's anything I DO know about this sh!t is that I'm gonna stay ready so I don't have to get ready. Hell who knows, there could be an intern or an A/R looking to make a name for themselves and could be combing through production boards looking for that next sound. And that could possibly be anyone of us. That's why I still have the same tag line since I joined and the reason why I always shout out to ya'll to keep grinding.

I ain meant to run off on a paragragh or nothin but you know how it is when you choppin game. Props for taking the time.

The One Thing in Life You Can Control: Effort
via Blog Maverick by Mark Cuban on 12/30/07

I remember the time well. I was 27 years old.
I finally had my own apartment for the first time. I still hadn't bought a new car yet, but I was jazzed that I had a 4 year old Mazda RX 7. 4 Years old was as good as new to me, and driving a gold RX 7 back in the day was fun as well.

I still bought my suits used, although by then I did have 1 new suit I had bought at Neiman Marcus because my girlfriend worked there and brought me to one of their year end employee discount deals.

My business, MicroSolutions was about 3 years old and I would make 60k dollars that year. HUGE money for me. Back then, getting paid your age was good, double your age was great. Around Christmas of that year, after many welcome hints from my then girlfriend, I decided to take every penny I had in my savings, $ 7,500 dollars and get engaged.

It was a beautiful ring that cost me exactly $ 7,500 dollars.

Long story short. I got engaged. She lost the ring a couple weeks after I gave it to her and before it was insured. We broke up. (the good news is that I was too young to get married and we are still good friends).

27 years old. Zero in the bank. Messed up in the head because of the breakup. The good news was that I had my business. The one thing that I could always focus on to the exclusion of everything else. A trait that would serve me well in business, but had more than a little bit to do with my breakup.

MicroSolutions was growing. But it could be doing better. The PC industry had gone through a major slump and pullback and the local area networking industry had yet to take off. If we were going to grow, it was going to take working hard and working smart.

It was right around then I heard something that I would hear a lot once I bought the Mavs.

In sports, the only thing a player or coach can truly control is effort. The same applies to business. The only thing any entrepreneur, salesperson or anyone in any position can control is their effort.

I had to kick myself in the ass and recommit to getting up early, staying up late and consuming everything I possibly could to get an edge. I had to commit to making the effort to be as productive as I possibly could. It meant making sure that every hour of the day that I could contact a customer was selling time and when customers were sleeping, I was doing things that prepared me to make more sales and to make my company better.

And finally, I had to make sure I wasn't lying to myself about how hard I was working. It would have been easy to judge effort by how many hours a day passed by while I was at work. That's the worst way to measure effort. Effort is measured by setting goals and getting results. What did i need to do to close this account. What did I need to do to win this segment of business. What did i need to do to understand this technology or that business better than anyone. What did I need to do to find an edge. Where does that edge come from and how was I going to get there.

The one thing in our business lives is effort. Either you make the commitment to get results or your don't.

I really like that. Cuz here's the deal. I can't make nobody like my beats more...the only thing I can control is my HUSTLE. That's it...that's all I have control of. I'm going to try my best to run with this in '08.
