I'm bout to head Modells or Sports Authority to get me some,but i got a few questions.

* Do they really work for guys
* what it really does?
* How many/ What type should I buy
* Any suggested workout plans?

I'm 6' 164 lbs got 30-35 days to get into good shape for spring semester so I'm thinking about doing pushups crunches every day and use the bands every other day but Iono if they really help or not.

get a gym membership. the bands alone will not help that much.

Do the what statement above says. Also, set up a workout routine(or get help online or through a trainer or this site), learn some exercises for each (major and minor) body part and go at it. And try and educate yourself on nutrition and healthy eating. once you do that, you'll be on your way to achieve a respectable physique and conditioning.
