Boyz N the Hood is a complete movie that you can put in the same group as Godfather and other classic movies.
Boyz N the Hood = 10/10
Menace II Society = 8.5/10
besides Menace II Society copied heavily from Boyz N the Hood.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. The genesis, the rise and the demise all differ.
Let's start with each protagonist.
Trey was a good guy. He did the right thing through out the entire movie, including getting out of the car during a potential drive by.
Cain was a bad guy who carried a gun, jacked and killed people, and the only moral decision he made in the movie was to move with his girlfriend.
Let's look at the Mercutio's, the protagonists friend.
Ricky again was a good boy who did the right thing, on his way to USC.
O-Dog just didn't give a f##k and was a killer.
Let's look at their girls.
Trey's girl was a catholic school virgin who finally had sex with her high school sweet heart.
Cains girl was older woman with a kid who convinced a barely legal 18 year old Cain to move with her out of the state!
Dog, they are in no way similar.

Watching Baby Boy on BET is maddening. The editting of the curse words are horrendous.

Yeah well Julius Erving set the blueprint for Jordan and Mike was better.
Menace has more replay value, but Boyz In Da Hood was the first and more acceptable for larger audiences while still showing all the grime we go through in the hood albeit in a more sentimental manner. You can see that by the differences in the main characters.
You supposed to be sympathetic to Cuba (feel bad for him) and you supposed to sympathize with Caine. (understand him)

Menace came after Boyz and tried give a more gritty insight into what boyz was tyring to get into. like someone said, boyz was more of a mainstream movie. while that is true, it was also first. therefore, any movie that is even slightly in the same vein, is going to be somewhat inspired by Boyz. thats just how art is. in the end tho, they both have a similar moral.

Boyz has the emotional value.
both are great films.
Menace is kinda like Goodfellas to me with its fast paced action and funny but intriguing dialogue. Brutal and dark.
Boyz is like Godfather with its methodical introduction to life in the hood and the pain of its effects. Shows the home(family) life much more.
I like both films. Not sure which is better though.

Menace was a lil over the top, reality wise
Especially O-Dog's character, that n*gga was too crazy, watchin' a murder tape wit the homies ova and ova, killin' crack heads in broad day light and takin' his sandwich. And why the hell didn't leave wit Kane and he was wanted for murder?
Menace had it's bad actin' moments hear and there, and it didn't get the plot across as well as Boyz N Da Hood. I mean, Kane wasn't a likable character, dude was too sterotypical. Menace is a classic movie but ain't even touchin 'Juice'
