I tend to get the feeling that some people think that "internet hustle" is all you need. Y'all need to hit the phuckin streets with mixtapes, flyers, hit college radio stations, do some shows, network with people in the industry (face to face). I mean, if MySpace hits is all you got, pff.

I know there's been cases of MySpace and YouTube "artists" being signed but c'mon, you wanna have Cassie & Soulja Boy careers? Y'all doing yourself a disservice IF all you do is "hustle" on the internet.

Anyone...ANYONE...can sit on their ass in front of a computer and "hustle" on the web.

The best method of marketing on Myspace is to fully leverage the power of social networking on that scale.

Relying on programs and other methods of doing things will give you quick results, but if you want a long lasting relationship with your customers (in your case, listeners), then it's best to do things manually. Granted, it requires more time, but that's a fair exchange in the long run.

Doing so doesn't guarantee that you'll become a super success, but it will extend your reaches to every part of the country.

It also helps to have a fully customized profile that can help generate a buzz. Check out my Myspace profile below for my wrestling website.

Aje knows.

It`s a very motivating post when I think about it.

I`m sure we could have a nice thread on tips to get more exposure, stuff that some of us might not have tried yet, instead of just àrtificially upping our myspace plays.

Yo, man, it's crazy. I don't know how y'all do y'all hustle but I know this one dude personally, around the way. He's cool people, for real, and he got some decent music (he supposedly manages some people) but the ONLY thing he seems to do is internet hustle. I think it's pathetic and it honestly makes me sad, in a way, because the guy (since I met him in '99) been basically on the same level in terms of musical "success". While, I, who don't claim to be the hustler's husler or anything - I can be lazy as shyt sometimes, too - started as this scrubby kid intern at the college radio station...learned how to DJ, then learned how to produce whatever/whatver. He's been trying to do scheme after scheme to get on since then. Back then I used to believe him but now it's like, "Yeah, okay, homey, good luck."

There is luck involved in the game. Being at the right place at the right time and shyt. Meeting the right person or whatever but that luck isn't really luck when you think about it. It's because you're putting yourself out there for people to see you. Whether you're a producer or an MC. Some of these musicians (DJs, Producers, MCs, Guitarists, whatever) are just really lazy and expect shyt to JUST HAPPEN. I never came across of a company that had a man go door to door asking, "Does anyone in this household happen to rap? Really? Well, I'm from Atlantic Records and..."

It's like sales...they have this thing that's called a funnel. I'm in sales now so unfortunately I know about this all too well. The funnel is when you build up your cold calls enough where they become leads. Say you do 100 cold calls in a month. Obviously they're not all going to be leads. Let's say that 20 of them become leads. And then 5 of the 20 become sales. You could apply that with this game, in a way. Obviously it helps if you're talented at what you do...you may get more leads. But at the end of the day this game is all about leads (who you know) but it helps if you've got talent (what you know).

Not trying to lecture or whatever. Take from this what you want. I ain't saying I have any answers. I'm just sharing what's worked for me (so far).

as far as myspace goes.i think cheating to get plays is STUPID!!!! let the people listen to your music to get plays.your only cheating your self if you get some kind of "get 5k plays" myspace bullshyt. but a far as a friend adder i think that its pretty cool if you dont got time to sit there and go page to page adding people. but all that "GET 5k instant plays on your player!!!".....LOL...i guess you will have a artificial smile and you will be artificial happiness on your fake ass knowing those are fake plays.

yes...i just hit 19,590 plays and counting....no instant 5k bullshyt...
