View Full Version : If Jay couldn't surpass Pac or B.I.G...how can anyone think this is humanly possible?

That's like Pres. Obama surpassing MLK. He would have to cure AIDS, Cancer, and end hunger. Plus, bring Mother Theresa back to life.

Jay has surpassed Big...Pac may not be possible to pass, just because people have grown to look at him in damn near a spiritual fashion...but i think Jay will most likely when its all said and done, be widely considered the greatest rapper ever..

Jay is not coming close to B.I.G., and I'm more of a fan of Pac than B.I.G. But listen to B.I.G. and realize Jay can't even touch his verses on Victory.

I disagree...but I wasn't referring to just my personal opinion, I think Jay has reached the point where the general consensus is that all things being considered he's ranked higher than Big in an all-time sense...

Jay > Pac & Big, the two most overrated rappers ever

please...jay was a better LYRICIST even then, and now he's learned how to deliver lyrics well, he's much more of a complete artist than big was, sorry but it's true....there are songs that jay could rap to that big couldnt, hovi baby for example....
i aint trying to short change biggie man but people hold him that high for nostalgia, not because he was really that good to be considered over everybody else with 2 albums of material, he gets mentioned with pac because they battled and died around the same time...had biggie not clashed with pac they wouldnt even be mentioned together if you ask me
RTD was my first store bought album...so i'm not hating, but jay is better than big, especially now...even die hard biggie fans can admit that the only thing big had over jay back then was his delivery, jay has a b1tch voice so he did not stand out in that time frame, once he learned to use his little homo voice in a strong manner, his lyricism and over all grasp of the technical aspect of rhyming surpassed bigs
as for pac...i dont think jay is better, but i will say that if ANYBODY has the potential to make a run and pac's spot, it is jay-z, he's more worthy of the comparison than most because just like pac, his game is well rounded, from quality lyricism, hit making ablity and longevity (most rappers dont make it to album number 3, pac dropped 7 before he even died)
jay only has like 3 solo albums more than pac and thats not even including the posthumous material and i honestly dont think jay's best 3-4 albums are touching MATW, SDT, AEOM or thug lyfe...jay is close tho, a case could be made, or could be made when he's actually done with this rap **** to be the greatest ever

Part of the problem, Jay subject matter is very limited. I blame it on his ego and arrogance.
But B.I.G. was able to present some of the intracacies of life that Jay has yet to put on record. Suicidal Thoughts, anyone?
Would Jay ever release a single like Get Money, which was easily one of the biggest single of that year.
People forget, Jay played it safe, that's why Vol.2, Vol.3, Dynasty was put together the way it was.
Most people don't remember the winter of '98 to '01.
How can you rate Jay above B.I.G., when people can't even remember the excitement that a B.I.G. verse brought. I mean, how can a cat catalogue consist of 3 good lps and surpass people who were actually being artistic.

I said this in another thread recently and the Jay stanclub went off and started calling me a "fukking idiot" and all types of other colorful names. Here it is: http://forums.sohh.com/showthread.php?t=940144
jay & big is mainly a ny thing & i can't say which it better because i never followed big that closely!!! as for pac he lived in different places while growing up & saw the struggle from numerous standpoints, making him relatable to people from all over!!! he spoke to everyone from every region!!! i think it's too late in jay's life & career to go backwards & capture that!!! it's basically like jay brings ny with him musically & pac brought every region with him musically!! if some of the young ny cats let go of all that ny state of mind sh!t & start lettin' other areas influence & improve their music someone could come along that can match &/or surpass pac!!!! my two cents!!!

Exactly, Pac was the most popular rapper here, 2000 miles away.
Jay makes too much fake sh*t to be the greatest. He's the equivalent of Kobe or Lebron, they're trying too hard to be Mike to pass Mike. It's the same thing with Jay. 2pac wasn't trying to be Rakim or Ice Cube. There was no Big before Big. Those guys were real dudes. Jay's whole career has been a business transaction. It's what will sell the most. What will help me accomplish what I want to accomplish. If I need the streets, then I'll make a street song. If I need a girly song, then I'll make that. It's not honest. It's playing to the masses. Whereas, Pac was himself. Biggie was to an extent(thanks to Puffy) kinda affected, but was mostly himself too.
YOu can't be the GOAT if your assention caused the downfall of the whole culture. Puffy and Jay killed real Hip-Hop. That disqualifies him right there. Next y'all are gonna call 50 Cent the GOAT. F*ck that.
